NCAA Rankings 2/19/13

Re: NCAA Rankings 2/19/13

Again, let's all remember, the NCAA just gives the automatic bid to the conference. The conferences have decided that their tournament champion gets the automatic bid. All of them. All the NCAA can do is let the conference award its automatic bid and then try to award Pool C bids after that dust clears. If Salve Regina gets into the NCAA tournament, it is not the NCAA's fault.

....it's RIT's fault...

Re: NCAA Rankings 2/19/13

In the meantime, I'll say it again: Hobart has it all over Babson in both win % and SOS, and unless Norwich takes tomorrow night off just to spite me :D the NCAA will have no reasonable argument whatsoever for being ranked them above HC.

None.
Actually, no.

WinPct:
Hobart 0.769
Babson 0.705

SoS -- Not exactly the NCAA figures but very close.
Hobart: 0.5336
Babson: 0.5432

RvR
Hobart: 5-5-1
Babson: 6-2-3

Re: NCAA Rankings 2/19/13

I don't know, I just think Babson has too many losses and ties for my liking. I know the DII games don't count as far the NCAA criteria (dumb)....but with no dog in the fight, I see Hobart as more deserving despite their early out. That said, I thought Babson was a good watch on TV yesterday...better than I expected.

As poor a calculation of actual strength of schedule the NCAA metric is, they have been known to heavily weight it and/or use it as the reason for taking one team over another. That despite the fact that it is mostly out of your control and one game against a tough team will skew it significantly.

Without factoring the other games, which do affect SoS, if Babson loses, it's SoS goes up to 0.5542. Norwich would be at 0.5288, but would still be the #1 seed east.

Hobart is in trouble, big trouble. The Comparison, I think, shifts to the winner of the ECAC-W tournament, but the winner's RvR is crushed by Babson.

Babson won 2-1. Say goodbye Hobart.

I dont' think the E-West Champion will necessary get a Pool C bid. I think Platty has a great case. It was nice for a change that Oswego didn't through the wrench into the frey in not winning the SUNYAC. Everyone can blame someone else this year. For the 11 teams who will get to the NCAA's Congrats and best of luck and see you in Placid.

Pool C is easy this year: Norwich, Utica, and Eau Clare/St. Norbert loser...everyone else needs an auto bid! (Right?)

I will only agree with Wich. That is just my jut feeling. The men in the smoking room will leave us scratching our heads as usual.

Yup. The interesting part this year will be the seeding and bracketing. This will be a chance to see the smoke-filled room in action.

And for the benefit of those who haven't see it in-action before, it kinda goes a little like this...

Edit: Just had to add this classic to "drive-home" the point... :D

Best approach might be a pool for what time they announce the seeds  Should've heard WDEV confidently saying "tomorrow at 10pm" after the postgame.

They have a "selection" show scheduled to air on ncaa.com at 10pm, but I suppose even that could be delayed.

The women's selection show is scheduled for Monday at 10pm, by the way.
