NCAA Hockey - 2023/24 **Insert Witty Tagline**

Are there any NMU fans on this side of the forum? I'm curious what their thoughts are on Grant Potulny's tenure and if it will continue.
I've posted about him. He's been mid at best after talking a good game and having a hot start wringing double the wins out of essentially the same team from Walt Kyle's last season. He made public comments prior to the pandemic about it being time to hang some banners, but has an 0-for-3 record in title games.

Support from the university has improved from what the previous coach worked with, but a lot of the altheltics and alumni programs are still paper tigers... theyre punching way above their weight class to continue to survive. Forrest Karr bailed a couple years ago for Duluth (writing on the wall?) which likely hasn't helped. Part of the issues could also fall on the assistant coaches? Byron Pool was Grant's pick from the start; had five years as assistant at USHL Fargo, with just one playoff round of experience. Then Nick Peruzzi was brought on to replace hockey alum Rob Lehtinen in the summer of 2021. Nick was an assistant for the USHL Youngstown team that lost in the championship and then the team slowly slid in the standings year after year.

I'm not able to keep my ear to the ground of NMU Hockey like I used to, but my assumption is the locals aren't getting restless yet. They're a hearty group who is going to give the benefit of the doubt for a good stretch. I could see Grant's next contract not being as generous unless he steps the program up.

Overall... Grant has been good, but he needs some hardware and NCAA appearances.

With Bowling Green letting Chris Bergeron's successor go will Miami follow the lead of the program a couple hours to the north up I75 and let Bergeron go? His record at MU in 5 season there has been astonishingly bad. Not a single season with double digit wins, and only a covid shortened 2020-2021 season with fewer than 21 losses. With all of the shuffling that accompanied/followed Penn State's elevation to D1, Miami has to be the team that most regrets all of the change.

Yes. Rumor is he's already been given the boot but everyone involved is playing out the rest of the games for the sake of appearances.

A pair of 2-1 Big Ten semi games sets up Michigan vs Michigan State at Munn next weekend. MSU-OSU had a goal taken away on each side following challenges. I don’t know what changed with OSU but they were a completely different team the last month of the year. Big Ten is going to clog up the 2-3 seeds and mess with placement unless MSU wins next week and Denver or UND lose in the semis.

CCHA gets Tech at Bemidji.

NCHC is also causing a pile up in the 3-4 seeds between CC, WMU, Omaha and St Cloud.

The Gophers played like dogs**t vs UMi. Very uninspired play and honestly I have no faith that they'll find the grit to make it back to St. Paul.

Yeah, Gophers have been trending the wrong direction for a few weeks now. They’re now facing heading to a regional a Boston team is the 1 seed in, and like Slap Shot, they haven’t shown me anything recently to make me believe they’ll fight their way back to St Paul if that’s the case.

We’ll see if a few weeks off helps or hurts.

Someone from an eastern team on d1 side was whining about how the gophers didn’t do what they were supposed to last night.

umm….we lost five guys all starting in the nhl, one will be a top two Calder finalist and another top ten. This team is nowhere near as talented. And I think a big gloom settled over season when Cooley pulled his bs. You wanna leave fine, but then don’t pull a “I’m staying” crap and then renege- just take time to make you mind up.
We also crap the bed every year in this tourney against Michigan! Last night was not surprising at all.

I maxed out my ff tickets since we’re the host, and we could. If we won’t be there, we can make the inbreds to the east and west pay a markup to attend

Dartmouth still being alive and UNH not makes me very happy given the trolls on this board. If Dartmouth somehow gets 2 Ws this coming weekend to make the NCAAs for the first time in 35 years... well, that would be something. Probably couldn't make it to the east coast but if they got sent out west, would probably go.

That was me!! As a team ranked 6th and playing a team ranked 12th, the Gophers should have won that game. On paper, a surface we know the game is not played on. Before that game started, some other BU fans and I were talking about what would keep UMass a three seed and MN beating MI would help. And given the three posts before yours, losing those five guys didn’t seem to be a problem, plus the fact that MN has been ranked in the top 10 most if not all of the season, saying that they should have won is not out of line.

Oh losing those five is a huge deal. It’s just that we’re at the end of the season and aren’t pointing it out with every disappointing result anymore. :^)

I just think they’re overrated. And Michigan always finds a way to have another level in playoffs. There’s likely gonna be more upsets in the coming days - if hockey was played on paper, well, you know…

Best I can tell, Michigan State moves into a 1 seed slot with a win and Denver not winning the NCHC. There's one scenario where MSU and Denver tie going four decimal places back in the RPI, but MSU pulls it out with the hidden digits.

Reid Cashman should win the Tim Taylor Award hands down. I loved that guy as a player, too.

MICHIGAN F@#&ING TECH won another league title and is making an NCAA appearance?

Someone hand me a bottle of Blanton's.

: mad ::mad:

UMass and Colorado College are essentially tied for the last at large bid. If KRACH was used, they’d both be in and WMU would be on the outside looking in.
