Movies: Poor Things, Barbie and Oppenheimer are stuck in La La Land

Watched No Time For Sargeants this morning. Don't know how many times I've watched it, but it's one of the funniest movies I've seen.
 
The Assessment. B+. A mixed bag.

Spoilers:

Dependable, if graying, concept. Cromulent acting by 2 of the 3 leads. The 3rd, Alicia Vikander, is great for the first half of the movie.

In general, the first half of the movie is excellent. Then it starts to go hack and by the final act even Vikander is bad, but that's mostly because the script has become trite. They didn't know how to resolve it and didn't dare not resolving it. I can see them not wanting to rip off Brave New World any more than they already did. The scenery and set was a fine choice to avoid most of the redundancy of the concept.

The dinner is the best scene, even though the Basil Exposition monologue is atypically boilerplate.

There are well-executed homage SF set pieces throughout the film. I caught Stalker, Brave New World,1984, The Illustrated Man, and Fahrenheit 451. I'm sure there are more. Have fun treasure hunting.

A nice change from the summer children's movies, anyway. Ambition, even when unfulfilled, should be rewarded. Two cheers.

I re-watched the The Three Colours trilogy (Trois Couleurs for the pretentious amount us) over the last weekend. Still holds up.
 
Jet lagged still.

“There will be blood” is actually almost better in Swedish

“jag har övergivit mitt barn” hits better than “I’ve abandoned my child” over and over again

mookie finally put the big labowski on to see….
Had to run out after the 40min mark, but will continue when time presents itself 👍🏾
 
My wife has been watching it and o came into it towards the end. It could be worse. There are a few fun callbacks, but the acting of 90% of the cast is worse than Grown Up 2’s acting.

It doesn't help half of the acting is Adam Sandler's immediate family or pro golfers. Surprised how many actual golfers they got to be in this.
