Movies: Poor Things, Barbie and Oppenheimer are stuck in La La Land

The documentary about the sexual abuse scandal at OSU, “Surviving Ohio State” is well worth a watch. Playing on HBO.

I recently watched Loving Vincent on Peacock. Absolutely beautiful film. It is set about 1 year after the death of Vincent Van Gogh and tells the story of a man trying to deliver the last letter Vincent wrote to his brother Theo (who had also since passed). The man struggles to understand how Van Gogh could have committed suicide and meets with those who knew and interacted with him at the end to learn more about his state of mind and what happened. The movie was first filmed in live action and then using rotoscope style animation, each of the 65,000 frames was painted over with oils by over 125 artists in the style of Van Gogh. As Van Gogh is easily my favorite artist, this film was very moving for me. If you are even a casual art fan and you have Peacock, I highly recommend it.

Speaking of Van Gogh, one of the greatest experiences I've ever had was going to a Van Gogh virtual exhibit in Bangkok about 3 years ago. Yes there were still actual works for viewing, but the whole exhibit was brilliantly done and my wife had to make me leave after 2 hours because I couldn't get enough.

Very difficult to demonstrate as such with photos but I'll try...

Jon Bernthal is bringing the Punisher to the big screen—and this time, he’s stepping into the world of Tom Holland’s Spider-Man.

Bernthal has officially joined the cast of Spider-Man: Brand New Day, the upcoming installment in Sony and Marvel’s Spider-Man franchise.

Directed by Shang-Chi filmmaker Destin Daniel Cretton, the movie begins filming in England this summer and is slated for release on July 31, 2026.

We saw this. And we liked it a lot, too.

The Amateur with Rami Malek, Laurence Fishburne and a slight appearance from Jon Bernthal. Fully enjoyed this one even if there was one easily predictable plot point, as there was plenty of unforeseen moments and it didn't feel like a complete rehash of every movie of it's kind.

Best part is To Wong Foo was filmed in rural Nebraska. I remember the newspaper tracking all the stars. It was a happening.

Would never happen today.
