I highly recommend the remake with Nic Cage. Haha, no I really don't. It's Nic Cage-level bad on steroids, oxy and crack.

No thanks :) I read somewhere that after hearing that people found it unintentionally funny, he argued that they were trying to make it like a dark comedy. "No guys, its intentionally unintentionally funny. I meant do do that!"

Watched The Wicker Man (1973) on Netflix last night. That was...weird and unsettling, yet oddly compelling. Whoever wrote the music for that film was doing ALL of the drugs at the time.

The bolded/underlined is the key to your response.....

Hey Handy,

I'm sure you've seen the Darkseid teaser that Jason Mamoa posted today. Just curious if this was the tease that you've mentioned would be in the "Snyder Cut" but would go unfulfilled.

If it is, I'll give it to ya. It's not breaking any ground and just has me going "meh"... Kinda glad they got this out of the way now.

Well...yes and no. Darkseid is the tease but that particular scene is not how the film ends. In fact, that is part of the beginning of the film. In the theatrical cut Darkseid (although technically Uxas at that point...ya being a geek!) was replaced by Steppenwolf during the "History Lesson". The Snyder version had a much longer opening where it describes how Darkseid tried to conquer Earth during the time of the Old Gods (Zeus and Ares) and how they defeated him not Steppenwolf.

I will admit though...I was actually wrong about how different the Snyder Cut will be. According to the people who would know better than I ever could it is going to be a much different film. I guess I never realized how much Whedon changed when Snyder quit/was replaced. I have seen some of the original versions of scenes now and the difference is actually quite glaring both in style and content. If they are right and Snyder is being allowed to basically make the film they blocked him from making for various reasons then this will be a fundamentally different story with different beats and looks. (and much longer...Whedon was forced to a shorter run time to maximize showings since the film was going to underperform badly) There will be more of the Amazons, Cyborg's part will be almost completely different and so will Superman's. (i.e. the reshoots with the cgied out mustache will all be taken out and Snyder's shots will be put back in...which actually look much better visually) Plus Arthur's story will be bigger as well as he will interact with the characters from Atlantis more. Then the Darkseid storyline will be put back in (Whedon took almost all of it out) which back then I didnt much care about but now would kind of like to see. (and not just because Ana Duvernay is still working on her New Gods film)

I cant say the film will be better because I cant trust Snyder to tell the story correctly (though the visuals should be nice) but it should at least look more consistent and less rushed in certain parts. Since it is going to streaming WB has nothing to lose on it and it all but guarantees the Snyder fans will get HBO Max which is all that matters to AT&T. The cast is pumped up about it which is nice. (some are even helping out with new scenes and redoing audio)

Rumor is if it doesnt crash and burn it is only the beginning though. HBO Max (much like Disney+) is changing the model for all of these studios going forward.

It made 10x its budget and had an 85% on Rotten Tomatoes. Who is underrating it?

They are in fact overrating it because it was dumb.

"It's an adaptation of 'The Scarlet Letter'!" No, no it is fucking not. They mention The Scarlet Letter a few times. That does not make it an adaptation. There is no parallel to plot or characters. I don't get to have someone yell "Hamlet!" for 90 fucking minutes on screen while they are taking a shit and call it an adaptation of Hamlet. Watching this movie does not count as a reading a fucking book!

And the woman playing her best friend is clearly entering menopause during the filming. I know Hollywood likes to cast older people to play teenagers but at least pick someone who wasn't born during the Kennedy administration.

Been binging on Chappelle specials of late including Equanimity, Sticks & Stones, 8:46 and the Mark Twain award show. I love Burr, Carlin, Pryor and even CK, but Chappelle is hands down the GOAT and I hope he's able to keep doing more for years to come.

Did you watch his 30 minutes or so he filmed after George Floyd’s death? Only a few jokes, but it’s poignant, smart, and told from the perspective of a guy who’s clearly seen some shit from the police.

It’s not a re-telling, they just clearly used it as the springboard for their story. It’s a fun movie, especially When considering the theater audience it was trying to reach.

Saw this last night and agreed. This was Dave showing his intelligence and ability to get a very poignant point across. Once again I'm impressed by how intelligent he is.
