Re: Movies 51 - Rise of the Frozen Joker: Chapter II: Dark Fate

I can read just fine.

Edit: No, I really can't. Hovey was talking about the Irishman.

I'm sorry, I assumed you were being wrong and stupid about QT the way you are routinely wrong and stupid about other movies by having the attention span of a 5-year old and by being brutally butt hurt when you can't understand things that are above you. Dunning-Kruger at The Movies. However, in this instance, you were being wrong and stupid in a different way. So, points for novelty!

Tarantino's alt-history shtick: it's OK. I thought it was much more effective in Inglorious Basterds. The magnitude of Hitler makes it so much more, I dunno, rash? outlandish? to rewrite history. Manson/Tate just isn't that important, so an alt treatment of an inconsequential event doesn't have the same impact. But I didn't think it detracted. I think I've sort of come to accept that QT does things like that like Lady Gaga wears steak pant suits. The press eats it up or something.

If you just read the last word of the sentence you would have seen you were wrong. Unless Scorsese made OATIH ;)

Like I said I get why he changed history just not something I liked. Didnt ruin the film but made repeated watchings unlikely. The amount of love he put into the period piece part of the film alone made the movie awesome and Pitt/DiCaprio are outstanding.

I saw Richard Jewell...very good movie. If the FBI did half of what the movie alleges (and I buy it) everyone involved in the investigation can rot in hell.

I won’t see another Eastwood movie after the chair. **** that guy.

I don’t know about the fbi parts but I’ve heard he really portrayed the female reporter terribly, and there’s no proof for what he portrayed

His movies have nothing to do with his politics...

And yes the female reporter is portrayed badly...but I doubt it is that far off. Since she printed the leak and set off the firestorm against him (based on nothing...zero investigation on her part) I don't mind that they probably made her out to be more conniving than she might have actually been. Maybe avoid making her look like a whore though ;) (even if she was one which no one knows)

She isn't the story though (they even let her make amends unlike the FBI) the story is how the media and the FBI screwed this guy over 4 days after he saved a bunch of lives.

Come on...I can't be the only one excited for the new Top Gun: Maverick trailer. :D

I'm curious about the movie.

As for The Irishman, Netflix has a 20 minute thing with Scorcese, Pesci, DeNiro, and Pacino, talking about the movie, the characters, etc. It's really interesting. It's just them sitting at a restaurant, bs-ing.

Re: Movies 51 - Rise of the Frozen Joker: Chapter II: Dark Fate

Uh...you might want to re-read what I said. I never said OATIH meandered. I said the Irishmen was too long but that is it. My only problem with Once Upon a Time was the Manson stuff. The first 75% of the film I love. (the last 25% I love half of) I dont know what the heck you are going on about...how could I think the story meandered when I literally said the period piece stuff and the actors performances were great? I thought changing history hurt the story not the story itself. You gotta actually wait til someone says what you think they are saying before you can pontificate like that otherwise you sound like a Film School Dropout :D

My problem with Tarantino isnt his pretentiousness (though the pretentiousness of his sycophants is nauseating) I think the guy has one of the best minds out there. He and Scorsese are two of the best interviews on movies of all time. I just am not a fan of his style when he goes over the top. That is what most people seem to love about him but it just isnt me. I have never once said he sucks though or that I dont get what he is trying to do I just dont like it. That is what I always get when I say I dont worship say Kill Bill or Reservoir Dogs...you just dont get it!! No I do, I have heard him tell me all about it (which is fun as hell!) I just didnt like enjoy it that much. I am glad he is out there making films though and I hope he keeps doing it even if I dont like them. I am about as big a proponent of creative film making as there is...hence my hatred of Di$ney ;) (no I dont really hate them...I just find them boring and cookie cutter no matter the genre)

He did write one of my favorite films ever though...True Romance!

A lot of this.

Kepler - seriously man sometimes you need to back off. A viewer can get what is going on in front of them and still not be enamored with it. I did like OATIH for many reasons, but it had some faults and someone need not be a dummy to feel that way.

Re: Movies 51 - Rise of the Frozen Joker: Chapter II: Dark Fate

QT also wrote Natural Born Killers, and then Oliver Stone did Oliver Stone on it. While I LOVE the movie, one of the great unanswered questions is, how would have turned out if QT directed the movie?

QT is not a style for everyone. That is for sure. And sometimes, it surprises me at who likes him and who doesn't; my mom LOVES his movies (except for the language, of course ;) ) and I never thought she would like his style. I can understand why people love or hate him.

Edit: and to piggyback Slappy, I get what some movies are trying to do. And I just don't care for it. It happens.

Whatever you do, don’t say anything bad about la la land

Re: Movies 51 - Rise of the Frozen Joker: Chapter II: Dark Fate

Pitt/DiCaprio are outstanding.

They really are. They play off each other perfectly. That was really the movie for me. As much as I like certain things about QT's technique, what is most memorable is the way he can write a scene and then direct the performers to make it true. Vinnie Barbarino / Uma and Kung Fu / Uma are what sell those movies. The diner scene is what makes Reservoir Dogs.

Roger. :)

ftr on the whole I've enjoyed most of QT's movies even when at times he takes it a bit over the top for my liking. RD was in regular rotation with friends, loved FDTD and obviously PF among others.

I am also very curious what he's going to do with Django/Zorro.

I haven't seen Django Unchained or, somehow, True Romance. I want to catch them both because he hasn't had a stinker for me, yet.

I do enjoy when you represent the people who annoy me so well! Sometimes you sound just like the guys I used to mock in the film class I took in college :D I bet those film snobs working at Subway ;)

I'm sure a few sell insurance. Don't be so hard on your alma mater.

True Romance is just so ridiculously great its hard not to fall in love with it. Take everything you love about Tarantino but it is before he had complete control (Tony Scott directed) so it is a bit (and I stress a BIT) more restrained. Christian Slater and Patricia Arquette are excellent. Plus you add Dennis Hopper, Gary Oldman AND Christopher Walken!

It has been a long time...might need to watch it again :)

I mean it is gonna bomb HARD but I will see it cause Top Gun is one of my fave films ever ;)

Jumanji (with The Rock) was more fun than it should have been. Haven't seen the second one yet.

I'm willing to give Top Gun 2 some benefit, unless they embargo early reviews, then they know it's terrible.

I am not mocking the school...I am mocking the losers who think because they can tell me what Hitchcock was showing in North By Northwest or the nuances of Red Violin (that film is a treasure but good god were these clowns over the top about it) that they (the students) are some kind of geniuses who should be revered. You know how the old adage was "Critics Are Just Film School Dropouts"? These guys couldnt even get into film school. At least I was taking it to fill my schedule and watch movies. They thought they were artists

(and now they are Sandwich Artists :D )
