MN Golden Gopher 2010 Offseason Thread

Re: MN Golden Gopher 2010 Offseason Thread

Does anybody believe Minnesota over recruited this year? Thought so, Lucia and crew didn't.

Re: MN Golden Gopher 2010 Offseason Thread

wow! I have questions regarding question 10. Wouldn't choosing "other" be sufficient to cover the "transgender" choice? If not, what exactly is it that "other" would cover? When the poll is finished, can we see what the breakdown of gophers fans is between "male", "female", "transgender", and "other"?

That is all.........for now.

That's the strangest multiple choice selection I've every seen. Take my word for it, the norms, internal and external validity and statistical analysis for this survey is already flawed by design. Whoever created this study appears to have a "pansexual" bias and can't even spell "Mariucci".:D If the person is a Gopher season ticket holder, their tickets should be revoked immediately.:p

Seriously, UMN isn't the only team, there are others around college hockey that come to mind (Doesn't Wisconsin have like 45 players on their roster:) )and how does a college hockey coach predict which kids are going to leave and when... I can't fault teams for having a few extra recruits.

Re: MN Golden Gopher 2010 Offseason Thread

If the NCAA passes a rule that says they can't leave college early, the top kids will all go to major junior in the first place (and not college hockey), so as not to be 'trapped' in college when they feel they are ready for pro hockey. Who is the big loser there? College hockey.

I agree with you and I think College Hockey is better off leaving well enough alone. I also think that if programs can get the blue chippers and good players they should take them with open arms and live with the fact that they will/could leave after 1, 2 and or 3 seasons, if not they will be going MJ and we will never get them for whatever time period. I think most of us don't want to see a watered down less attractive version of college hockey. I don't know about you guys but I don't want to watch a league that is on par with the AHA, that translates to boring hockey.

I personally feel grateful that I was able to watch Zach Parise, Thomas Vanek, Danny Heatley, TJ Oshie, Jon Toews, Phil Kessel, Jordan Schroeder, Joe Colbourne, Cody Goloubef, Brendan Smith . . . and on and on and on, just in the WCHA. Seeing thoes guys, and many like them, play for two or three is better than not seeing them play the college game at all.

That said, allowing Gopher players to leave early is regrettable but perfectly acceptable and probably, in the larger scheme of things, ideal--at least in the eyes of all but a small clan of uncomprehending, slope-headed, dimwitted, can't-grow-a-beard inbreds who've never been east of the St. Croix or west of the Red.

who've never been east of the St. Croix or west of the Red.
Given what's west of the Red and east of the St. Croix, I gotta say I would've been better off not venturing into those awful states. :p

I expect the Gophers to be mediocre once again - and somewhere in the middle of the pack (4th-7th). I figure with expectations this low entering the season, I can't possibly be disappointed... except for when I see Hill still behind the bench.

Re: MN Golden Gopher 2010 Offseason Thread

Gophers hockey coach Don Lucia is completely healthy now after suffering for 1 1/2 years with sarcoidosis, an ailment that affected his nerves. Lucia was asked if he thinks having the problem affected his coaching.

"I think that if you asked our staff and our players when the weeks I got my treatment, and my steroid IV, that they could see the difference in me physically," Lucia said. "So it was hard, but you never take your health for granted when you go through something like that, but it could have been a lot worse. So I'm just grateful that I had wonderful doctors at the Mayo Clinic, and they were able to diagnose and treat what I had."

Lucia added that it hurt from the energy standpoint. "You just didn't have the energy, especially probably the first year, to really put in the time. Not so much the time but being able to recover physically from those treatments. The lack of sleep, the couple of days when you don't sleep and then when your body would crash. It was really hard physically."

Re: MN Golden Gopher 2010 Offseason Thread

So now in addition to the possible Leddy signing by Chicago still in the works Hammy has tweeted that a Gopher forward will be suspended and the NHL team with said forwards rights is not likely to be to keen on him sitting.

120 may be too small.

Re: MN Golden Gopher 2010 Offseason Thread

I don't know which is the funniest. Leddy leaving, a Gopher getting suspended or the Kangas Twitter Saga.

I'll go out on a limb and say Leddy will not leave and looking at the Gophers potential roster, whoever is suspended won't matter much anyway unless it's Cepis, and since he's undrafted it's not him.

From the looks of gopherpucklive, it's either Birkholz or Budish, and judging by the information given on the player without naming his name, I think it's Birkholz.

Re: MN Golden Gopher 2010 Offseason Thread

Or your panty hamster.

He's no George Carlin, but he is funny in his own way. Not as funny as Leddy leaving though.

Does Birkholz have this on his iPod?

Looks like you're wrong on both counts. Care to try again? Birkholz and Leddy would be devastating IMO.

Re: MN Golden Gopher 2010 Offseason Thread

I read somewhere else where Leddy has signed.Any truth to that?

Probably.

Leddy gone.
Birkholz suspended, probably.
Holl coming in.
Gardiner coming in.
Rumor about another d-man going.

Gophers will be even younger this year than last year.
