Re: MN Golden Gopher 2010 Offseason Thread

My sentiments exactly. The only returning guy I trust at this point whom I believe has any degree of feisty consistency and promise of game changing productivity is Jacob Cepis. The rest of the team has empirically proven they either can't score more than 2G, can't hit the net, can't go to the net, can't hit-period or can't shoot through a paper towel. But they can cycle! Of course, John Hill's presence on the bench doesn't help either.

So, you believe that with or without Leddy and Birkholz the team is Michigan Tech.

It should be a great season.

Re: MN Golden Gopher 2010 Offseason Thread

So, Guentzel is good enough for Dean Blais, but not for Lou Chia? I think there's some players whose main influence in being a gopher was Mr. Guentzel. Will he be the next gopher coach after Lou leaves?

Re: MN Golden Gopher 2010 Offseason Thread

The "rumors" are true. WCCO's Mike Max is reporting that Leddy will sign and someone on GPL has posted that Birkholz is going to the Everett Silvertips in the WHL.

Minnesota just got better. Cepis is still here.

Good timing for Leddy. Blackhawks are now a quality organization but have thinned their roster significantly and are in a rebuilding mode. Will be interesting to see his development with the Blackhawks. Makes sense the Blackhawks want him now.

May be a bit awkward for him to have to look to former Sioux, Jonathan Toews, for leadership and to wear a sweater with an Indian head logo. But overall it is a great opportunity for him. Nice to see he had a good camp with the Blackhawks.:)

good enough for the blackhawks, but not for the wild.

You can still rip on the Gophers, Biddy!

If WCCO is willing to go with it I'd say it's pretty much done.

Birkholz? Gone. But don't ask Don about it ... "Lucia will have no further comment on the matter."

UM.... despite the fact that the Hawks have had to trade/not sign a lot of their players from the Cup championship team, I'd hardly call them in "rebuilding mode." Toews, Kane, Keith, Seabrook, Hossa, Sharp, Hjalmarsson, Brouwer (and other players where I'm probably the only one that knows who they are & appreciates them b/c I'm a diehard) ... looks like a pretty good core of players to me.

Leddy was the best +/- on the team. He didn't score much. What does that tell you? NO LOSS I suppose.

Leddy probably got signed because he'll get significant minutes in Rockford with all the youngsters playing on the 3rd and 4th lines/ 5-6-7 D in Chicago this year. 75 AHL games at 20 minutes a night > 40 college games at 22 minutes. I doubt he'll have to worry about wearing an indian head this year.

I don't think he will have any problem working with Toews. One year in a rodent uni says to me he really wasn't all that interested in playing there other than taking the next step.Of course that seems to be with alot of players at the u.

Re: MN Golden Gopher 2010 Offseason Thread

Funny. This team loses players whether or not it has a good season. Even players who have no significant impact leave after a single season.

Re: MN Golden Gopher 2010 Offseason Thread

With the way players are jumping ship, Lucia should invest in some life jackets. Or at least tracking devices so he knows when Birkholz is getting his weed from Hagemo.

Re: MN Golden Gopher 2010 Offseason Thread

What? More players leaving? Well, Leddy wasn't developing their anyway. Who was Birkholz? Let's hope Lou Chia gets a contract extension.

Re: MN Golden Gopher 2010 Offseason Thread

where's Brent to claim that the Gophers are primed to win another championship?

Right here. It's offseason. I take (mostly) a break from hockey talk.

See you in St Paul. Well, maybe we'll see the Un-nameds in the stands.
