Re: MN Golden Gopher 2010 Offseason Thread

And how was the attendence at the last 2 regionals in the "state of hockey"?

Well, this year it was the most attended regional.

Fort Wayne Attendance: 4,133 and 3,204

Albany
Attendance: Attendance: 4,073 and 3,737

Worcester Attendance (with BC in their backyard): 6,572 and 6,054

St. Paul Attendance: 7,281 and 7,182

Didn't look for the 2009 numbers.

The attendance in the lower bowl at the Excel during the Minn High School State Tournament is higher than most regionals.

Well, those numbers certainly help Maize's argument for more CCHA hosted regionals.

I think it's comical that a blog written by someone who was/is a Michigan fan is complaining about where the Regionals are being held at. How often did Michigan host regionals at Yost? And when other schools complained at that time, the response from Michigan fans was "Well, someone else should bid on it."

My response now? If you don't like it, get someone else to bid on it AND guarantee the same revenue that Minnesota will.

I loved the, "they only host so they can have home ice advantage" along with the snide, "if they get that far" remarks. Pretty sure every program hosts with the hopes of having home ice and they're all free to put in a bid. Makes for completely objective commentary.

One would think you guys would embrace the " ha ha ha we get an unfair advantage!!! We're special!! We're the fair haired boys of hockey and you're not" angle of this rather than being so *****ly about it. :p ;)

No home ice advantage at the Excel Energy Center because ice is NHL sized.

Consider this quote regarding the Gopher home ice at the Mariucci arena:
The Olympic-sized (200 feet by 100 feet) ice sheet lends itself to the free-wheeling style of play of Minnesota’s “Pride on Ice.”

Free-wheeling style of play + NHL ice = End of Season. A different style of play is required in order to succeed in the WCHA especially in the postseason.

What are you talking about?

1. No free wheeling style here at Minnesota. Hasn't been here since Kessel left.
2. What does the ice sheet have to do with home ice. The "home ice" at Excel for the Gophers that is incessantly whined about is the over 10,000+ partisan fans in the building.

You couldn't have picked a worse quote to back up your specious argument.

Re: MN Golden Gopher 2010 Offseason Thread

At 17 years old? I wonder if he will grow.
Chay Genoway is 5'9" 174 lbs and is the best defenseman in the WCHA, so size won't hurt his college career.

But its hard to imagine him making the NHL.
