Re: MN Golden Gopher 2010 Offseason Thread

Whats your point? The coaches think he is ready, the scouts seem to think so as well it is his decision not to come in because he wants to pad his stats for the draft and he feels he wont do that on the Gophers. (allegedly) All you are doing is proving my point, if he isnt ready he shouldnt be coming.

This is a Gopher squad that could barely score 2 goals a game last year, Evan Kauffman would have been a Top 2 line forward on this team...if Ambroz is worried he cant get enough playing time on this team then he is not ready to come up and everyone should just accept that.

Okay we are in agreement. I am beginning to wonder if he is ready for the classroom.

This is getting weird and like somebody already mentioned he is ready for college. Pading stats is stupid if that is the case.

Q: How excited are you to be headed home next year to play for the Gophers?

A: I’m really looking forward to it because I grew up watching them play. When there was a chance to become a Gopher, I took it. It’s just another stepping stone with a lot of bigger, stronger players. You have to earn your stripes and adapt; you just get used to the style of play as the season goes on.

Well no offense, but if he is worried he wont get to play enough then he probably isnt as good as everyone is making him out to be. This team has little scoring...show any ability to do that and you are on the top two lines.

Let's be honest... the kid is highly unlikely to be the reason for this. It is more likely the people in his camp that are concerned about maximizing his future opportunities. I don't think anybody questions if he is capable of playing D1 now. It is more what role he is going to play as a 1st year player.

It is sort of like the Twins philosophy with a guy like Wilson Ramos. The guy can play in the big leagues but if he isn't going to play in a prime role in the majors, they may as well allow him the chance to play every day in a starting role in the minors. Ambroz can play D1 now. But is he going to play in the prime spots on the Gophers THIS year as compared to what he'd play in Omaha? Maybe... maybe not. But it is tougher to expect him to get those spots as a 17 year old in college

As for good as everybody says... the kid is still 17 years old. Let's be fair... even the most talented of 17 year old is likely to have some struggles as a first year player.

He is a good student. You don't accelerate a year if you are a moron. I do know that he hasn't quite finished up a little bit of academic stuff yet but not a major stumbling block

Well put.

No surprise here....Ambroz' family advisor, Shjon Podein is obviously UMD biased.;) Yet he still manages to have a heart of gold. :D

So let me get this straight Ambroz himself was ready to come and play for the Gophers and Lucia was ready for him to come and play for the Gophers but his 'people' are not ready for him to come and play for the Gophers?

Just tell yourself, "He's listening to his advisors and his advisors think this is the best plan.".

That's what I did.

I didnt mean him per se, I meant his "camp". And I still hold by my belief that if he isnt good enough to be effective on the team the Gophs have coming in (one of the worst scoring teams in Gopher History) then he should stay in Omaha because he isnt ready. Nothing wrong with that, I am more arguing with the people who think it is a big deal he isnt coming in.

Re: MN Golden Gopher 2010 Offseason Thread

I think it's comical that blog jockeys are crying selection bias and conspiracy in regards to the 2012 regional being held at Mariucci. Sites that "bid" on regional hosting are evaluated according to the following criteria: venue capacity, accessibility, attendance projections, and general area accommodations.

The first problem is letting Minnesota host for the fourth consecutive year. They got regionals in 2009 and 2010, the Frozen Four next year, and then another regional the following year. Over that same four year period, the entire CCHA conference, will only host three events: 2009 Grand Rapids regional, 2010 Fort Wayne regional, and the 2010 Frozen Four. It's no secret that a big part of the reason Minnesota wants to keep hosting is to give themselves a home ice advantage in the tournament--assuming they ever make it back--so why do they keep getting that advantage in the tournament?

Re: MN Golden Gopher 2010 Offseason Thread

I think it's comical that a blog written by someone who was/is a Michigan fan is complaining about where the Regionals are being held at. How often did Michigan host regionals at Yost? And when other schools complained at that time, the response from Michigan fans was "Well, someone else should bid on it."

My response now? If you don't like it, get someone else to bid on it AND guarantee the same revenue that Minnesota will.

Re: MN Golden Gopher 2010 Offseason Thread

There is no better place to host regionals/frozen fours than the Excel Energy Center, fact. "The State of Hockey" + an arena w/out a bad seat + int'l airport + ample hotel availability = shut the "F" up michigan.
