Re: MN Golden Gopher 2010 Offseason Thread

Next in line?

The conventional wisdom is the Gophers will not replace Ambroz for this season but just go with who they already have. They were running thick coming into this year anyway. This may open up icetime for some others who were looking at close to zero is all.

Really, this could be the actual reason he is delaying (or being pushed back... whatever the situation may be).

You guys really had a LOT of forwards for this year, something like this was really just a matter of time.

It would be very telling if someone else picked up Ambroz for this season (see also: Wiercioch and UW, although in that case there was an NHL team involved)

No, I call BS on that. Every year this team has been thin come the end of the year. That ends now. The "extras" in this case were walk-ons.

In either case, it's not like there would have been enough scholarship money left to go around for this season.

I get the need for players, since injuries and unexpected departures have been an issue lately, but how many were you guys up to this year?

All I'm saying is that a Wiercioch-esque situation would not surprise me here.

Re: MN Golden Gopher 2010 Offseason Thread

There's still to be a lot of speculation hovering over this thing. However, one thing seems certain from various media reports, Seth Ambroz was very focused on playing for the Gophers this year. That's what makes this thing very puzzling. I'm very curious to hear the spin on this one.

Re: MN Golden Gopher 2010 Offseason Thread

Ambroz signed a letter of intent last fall.

Ah... I see. That definately changes it then. In that case, the choice would have to be Ambroz's since (correct me if I'm wrong here) Minny wouldn't be able to back out of a LOI once it gets signed. HMC still has a good point, though... one has to wonder what Ambroz's reasons are.

One thing is for sure. The Drama glass has and will stay at 99.

Hey, you didn't want to be bored this offseason, did you?

And how exactly is it drama if he chooses to stay in the USHL so he can pad his stats for the draft? I swear it is like the fans are looking for things to get upset about. If he came in next year and stunk they would whine he should have stayed in the USHL because he wasted a year (see: Ness, Aaron) now the reverse happens and they whine about that.

Here is a tip, it isnt drama when the things that probably should happen do happen just because you figured it wrong. There is almost no negative about this and yet somehow everyone is implying negative...outstanding! When I am the positive one you need to look in the mirror and re-examine your life :p ;) :D :)

Glass was at 99 before Ambroz. Glass stayed at 99 after Ambroz.

That adds up to 0 drama.

You overreact to my shenanigans.

Haven't had time to read what is written in GPL, but this was my exact reaction to reading this news. We have a young player, that is going to get one more year to mature away from the Gophers before coming in and people see this as a bad thing? Having to let bluechippers come in at an earlier age, needing time to mature, in order to get and keep them has been one of obstacles the coaching staff has had to deal with, so I see this as a positive thing. Sure it would be fun to watch him this year, and we might see one less year of him, but the years we do see are likely to be better ones.

Besides, everyone knows real drama is your players getting, say 2 DWI's in the offseason, or is it from being arrested for lawn mower assault, or is it elevator whizzing? I forget, but I bet beating up your girlfriend would be drama.

True. And we don't even know what to call them anymore. Well, criminals I suppose, but beyond that....................nothing.

The way it looks to me is Ambroz will go WHL after he gets drafted. His problem is he is so young. The Gophers have him and want him but have to wait for the draft to find out what happens next. Meanwhile they can lock in a couple of older guys that will be here. I think the whole Ambroz signing and drama was just so colleges would leave him alone.

Minnesotan's rarely go the WHL route.
