Re: MN Golden Gopher 2010 Offseason Thread

Good riddance. Woog was THE worst analyst ever. Every call against the Gophers was a bad call and every thing that didn't go the Gophers way forced him to bring out a new box of Kleenex's. Too bad they didn't just can him for good.

You did actually watch a game this year, right? Doug and towards the end Frank, we're bordering on anti-Gopher in their call of the game. I was hoping the camera would end up showing Wooger because I was sure he was wearing an opposing team hat.

Re: MN Golden Gopher 2010 Offseason Thread

I don't buy that.....I'm not saying he's going to have a townhall meeting as to what the fan base thinks he should do but if he really thinks he doesn't have to answer to the fans, alum, and boosters, well then guess what.....him and Lucia can will get to use that carpool lane on their way to Job Service.

PS....I noticed you made it a point to include an 'if'. Does that mean you're not convinced he needs to go. And if so....I'm fascinated to hear as to why anyone would think that???? Unless you're Tony or Mario.....or maybe you're Ali?

LOL:D

Hey, if I was Ali you'd be out of your league to even talk to me.

Listen, I appreciate your devotion to the Gopher hockey cause. I really do. But Maturi doesn't grade any of his coaches strictly on wins and losses. He's made no secret of that.

Do I think Lucia needs to go?

I think he's earned the benefit of the doubt for a couple more seasons.

The better question is, who you gonna get to replace him?

Re: MN Golden Gopher 2010 Offseason Thread

Very sad day for college hockey. Woog is my favorite announcer in any sport. Frank did a nice job showcasing Woog's amazing stories and experiences.

Wooger certainly was struggling this season, which probably explains this move. FSN probably can't fire him if "health issues" are involved.

So we replace Frank, who had so much passion for college hockey with another face jock. Flat out there is no replacing Woog.

I met Wooger twice and I can't tell you how gracious and nice he was (there's probably 10,000+ Gopher fans that have similar experiences). Just went straight into old time DU stories on the flip of the switch. The man is a living legend. He lives and breathes Gopher hockey.

Ditto on Woog. It's tough to beat Doug Woog Gopher stories, except maybe Lou Nanne stories.

Ok, which WISCO fan signed up pretending to be this dude?

Maybe? :)

And I'm usually big on "if you're identifying a problem w/o a solution, it's just whining" so it's hard for me to say.....I'm not sure. I like the idea of Blais and the whole Herb Brooks, kick over garbage cans, type coaching style (i really do...). But will Blais get too much heat when he passes on the next Jordan Schroeder for the next Rhett Rakshani? I think he might but I don't think he cares and I like that. Plus it's been reported from many sources that he wants to come here....That I really like. And Lucia seems to be changing some things around w/ getting these kids w/ whiskers in Parenteau and Serratore. So Lucia himself is admitting, whatever they're doing now isn't working. Time will tell....maybe he'll work himself out of this funk and prove me wrong??

In the short-term I do believe Hill and Grant need to go.....some immediate changes need to be made and maybe tDon can bring in somebody that can play bad cop because Hill and Lucia's good cop/good cop isn't working.

There has to be a former Gopher who has some personality that can take over for Doug.

I've got one in mind who would be AWESOME. Given his current job, I'm not sure the U would permit it as a players' agent might have a wee bit of conflict of interest being in the booth. But Ben Hankinson would be great behind the mic. He could tell stories about dropping the gloves with Hakstol at center ice and I've heard him public speak before. At least when he's got a few pops in him, he's hilarious. :D

Which non-blog/tweet sources are those?

And I'd be happy to see tDon return if he kicked at least Hill to the curb. Grant was maybe a mistake, but his passion and leadership imho are off the charts and a more-experienced defensive-minded signing could help them probably overcome Grant's inexeperience. And people can dismiss this theory if they want, but I think tDon will return to demanding more from his guys now that Tony is gone.

Just a cost cutting move by a cheap company. LaPanta's not doing anything, he's under contract, why pay to have Frank do something that we already have someone under contract for. I'm sure the same will go for Woog. I wonder how the University of Minnesota athletic department is liking this move? His Linked-In profile says he's been working calling games for 24 years.

I didn't know Frank owned a photography studio though... www.mazzoccophotography.com

At least they didn't bring Telly Hughes in....

Re: MN Golden Gopher 2010 Offseason Thread

I just sent an email of the story over on the RedStar to my wife (who is a gopher fan) and what she sent back was pure gold:

Oh that’s so sad. Poor Dougie. Maybe they could give him an unplugged microphone and sit him in front of a fake camera and he can just go on thinking he is on tv.

:D :D :D :D

as much as I hate tRug and the Wooger I hate Lapanta much much more.

Well, she was dumb enough to marry you, so I can't be too surprised that she's dumb enough to write that. :p

classic msg board trap......if you cough up your sources, you're lying, if you don't, you're making s**t up.

I'll pass.....let's just assume he's interested.

Eight of the 11 schools sell beer in their premium seating areas.

Wisconsin receives $450,000 from beer company sponsorships.

What makes this amazing/pathetic is that regular fans at the Kohl Center still can't drink beer at the game. Only the folks in the suites.

You just can't let the Kohl Center Stasi catch you with beer at the game.
