Re: MN Golden Gopher 2010 Offseason Thread

Your wife has a corrosive wit. You might want to consider sending her to Betty Crocker's Charm School.

Doug Woog will always be the wittiest Gopher Hockey Icon ever. Some his lines are classic gold (courtesy of GPL): Wheelchairs,, "I couldn't say Kalinski for three days, now its like its growing out of my mouth", "He tried to dangle the big Johnson right there!", "Vanek went down quicker than a pancake at a VFW breakfast"

Another great moment was back around 95 or 96. I was waiting in the student line up at UND to get into the old Ralph with a buddy of mine who attended school there. We got out of line and went into the arena lobby to warm up as the gophers bus pulled in.

As the players where going through the lobby some Sue fan was holding a sign that read "Goofers Suck" and spouting off to the players and coaches. With the entire team behind him, Woog steps up to the clown and tells the kid "I will give you $50 for that sign." The kid thinks about it for a minute and hands Woog the sign. Woog hands the kid some amount of money and starts walking away.

The kid then yells "hey, this isn't fifty bucks" and Woog yells back "You are a North Dakota fan, I didn't think they could count to fifty, obviously they don't know how to spell Gophers correctly, it's spelled with two F's." All the boys on the team start laughing as Woog walks away and the kid just stands there with a stupid look on his face and no sign.

Awesome. The Wooger is the best and I hope he sticks around the booth for a few more years.

LaPanta doesn't do anything for me.

Ya.... I could have said that differently but I'm not going to worry about my symantics in every little post. It's a msg board, not the NY Post. If you'd like to call/email me and then I will gladly talk to you about what I know. But I will tell you if think Blais wanting to come here and the out he has in his contract doesn't specifically name the U of MN as a reason then you are mistaken

Dude, symantics [sic] has nothing do with interpreting, "...it's been reported from many sources that he wants to come here...." - it's a pretty cut and dried assertion. Like I said it's possible he would come here if the opportunity arose, but as of yet everything surrounding that possibility is pure speculation - including the belief he actually has a Holtz clause in his contract.

Re: MN Golden Gopher 2010 Offseason Thread

Um, yup. Even when the Gophers aren't playing, they are anti-Sioux (Final Five Championship). When they commentate with no bias (such as the SCSU-Wisco game), I think they call decent games.

Actually during the Sioux Denver game at the FF Woog was pretty much complimenting the Sioux the entire game so I'm not sure what you were listening to. But keep making stuff up that's fine.

This might help Slap. FYP.;)

Rivalry and natural hatred for UM aside, Doug Woog is a joy to listen too. Woog is a living piece of history and a pillar for the sport of hockey and it's fans. I would say more but I'm getting nauseous. Also, he doesn't squeal like our announcers when a goal is scored.....god is that embarrassing.

Are you always so ******* literal??? Dude, take a deep breath. Ok…here’s the deal, you’re not one of the coaches or one of the players so if somebody posts what they’ve heard or in most cases simply guess what might happen….WHO GIVES A S**T??

And as far is it being true I feel the need to remind you and everyone else of something……just because you're a message board geek and have no real connections to the game, don't assume everyone doesn't.

Another thing....I assume it's your position that until you read it in the STrib or from an actual release from the U that you feel there is no sense in even talking about it. And although I’m sure it’s w/ the best of intentions it’s quite frankly .........stupid and naïve (and pretty boring too). Again….chill out, it’s not national security or the fight on terrorism. It’s a game played by kids who probably care less about than you do.

PS....you'd better start getting used to the idea that although he might have bought himself another year, maybe 2.....one thing remains....he's going to get gassed.

My comments had nothing to do with wanting Lucia to stay and everything to do with whether or not Blais is a realistic replacement and from what I know it's not at present a realistic outcome. That's neither naïve nor stupid and I know you're no more connected because you never passed the smell test at GPL and ran away when called out. If you want to continue to pound your chest be my guest, but you might want to try and find some lemmings first.

Re: MN Golden Gopher 2010 Offseason Thread

....the smell test at GPL

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

That's hilarious.....Do you REALLY think GPL is 'connected'???? I'll let you in on a little secret. Those msg board nerds are being laughed at...not laughed with. And the only reason I went on there was to see how fast I could get bounced for the 3rd time. I tried to see if I could do it a 4th time but that Mars or Venus character wouldn't let me back in and now I owe my buddies beer.

GO YALE

Re: MN Golden Gopher 2010 Offseason Thread

Well, if it's any consolation to another mediocre season, Yale pulled off an upset against our Northwestern neighbors.

LaPanta doesn't do anything for me.

man, i've been saying this for years (granted not on here, but) i've always loved Woog and his Woogerisms!

and, amen! i don't much care for LaPanta either. just... just something about him...

Re: MN Golden Gopher 2010 Offseason Thread

Slap Shot & Duey,

not that i care in the least, but, to pull a grammar/spelling nazi move, isn't it sEmantics not sYmantics?

just curious, that's all.

Re: MN Golden Gopher 2010 Offseason Thread

anyway. all BS aside, anyone have information on incoming recruits for the next season!?

i just pulled up this page on USHL's website. it's interesting to see where these young kids are going. http://www.ushl.com/ncaa/

as for Seth Ambroz, he will be in with the incoming freshman class next year, no?

Lucia plans on 25 skaters and three goalies. As of now this is the list that has been bandied about. Incoming in Bold.

Forwards - 17
Barriball - Senior
White - Senior
Hoeffel - Senior
Cepis - Senior
Hansen - Junior
N. Larson - Junior
Matson - Junior
Miller - Junior
Sacchetti - Junior
Birkholz - Sophomore
Budish - Sophomore
Condon - Freshman
Haula - Freshman
Bjugstad - Freshman
Ambroz - Freshman
J. Larson - Freshman
Serratore - Freshman

Defense - 8
Fairchild - Senior
Wehrs - Senior
Ness - Junior
Leddy - Sophomore
Helgeson - Sophomore
Alt - Freshman
Schmidt - Freshman
Parenteau - Freshman

Goalies - 3
Jake Kremer - Junior
Alex Kangas - Senior
Kent Patterson - Junior

Guys that might be on the short list if anyone else leaves early but are likely to be in juniors next year are:

Jake Youso
Ryan Walters
Max Gardiner
Christian Isackson
Justin Holl

And there was postings about a Canadian goalie possibly coming in and could be a Kangas replacement if he leaves. Apparently the choice is between Minnesota and Michigan. I couldn't find more information but I remember it being talked about.

The above is what has me excited to see what happens next year....The others are unproven or proven they can't be counted on. I know Alt shouldn't be on there but I have a good feeling about him. Prediction: Haula and Ambroz are gonna rip sh1t up....

Re: MN Golden Gopher 2010 Offseason Thread

Thanks to Doug and Rug for the many years of commitment to Golden Gopher hockey. I was surprised to see almost 400 posts after the story that LaPanta will take over.
The Woogisms will be missed and there will never be another team like Doug and Rug!! I am sure some fans will be happy to see the change, but I think Tony suxs!!
Are fans still talking about Deano? I thought we all agreed he aint commin here and EA sports will not be making the 2010-2011 Frozen four video game!! Lol

Deano, no.........

I agree on Alt. The times I saw him play I was reminded of another CDHer, one missed by tDon.
