Re: MN Golden Gopher 2010 Offseason Thread

Frank's much better than LaPanta. What does it say for your network when LaPanta is the "Face" of the network!?? :D

Re: MN Golden Gopher 2010 Offseason Thread

how so? Or are you just trying to impress your Sue friends so maybe they'll let you hang out w/ them? Ya, I've seen your man-crush posts on the Sue boards. For Gods sake, pull yourself together and have some pride and hate the Sue like real Gopher fan.....and at least clean up before coming back over here.

Your attempt at humor just makes you look more stupid.:D

Oh there is no question that's what they're doing.....But in the interest of fairness Lucia signed Fischer and not Kyle Medvec. Sure....Fischer looked like the clear choice at the time but how that did turn out? Again....Lucia doesn't have a crystal ball but it's still on his watch.

"In the interest of fairness"? To whom? Montreal?:D Your rambling goes something like this: Lucia made a mistake by signing Fischer (Lucia's fault), but of course Fischer was the "clear choice" (not Lucia's fault), but it turned out wrong (Lucia's fault), but Lucia can't predict the future (not Lucia's fault), but it's still his fault because he's the coach. That's a whole lot of gibberish but it seems to indicate how your mind works.

Re: MN Golden Gopher 2010 Offseason Thread

Woog is awesome - even most non-Gopher fans are astute enough to know that truth.

must be an acquired taste... I like announcers that do not constantly trip over their words. He has his moments and to tell you the truth I don't really care but he needs to lay off the booze a little if they end up keeping him on.

Yes to Montreal....

Why is that hard to understand? He recruited Fischer who at the time seemed like the logical choice BUT didn't pan out.....OF COURSE that's his fault. Out of his control, sure, but his fault nonetheless. Would it make you feel better if I replaced "fault" w/ "responsibility"??

See....it's Lucia apologists like you that are the reason he's still the coach of this team.

Oh...and that was funny. Why don't you just come outta the closet and admit to everyone you're really a Sue fan?

You just rearranged your words and said the same stupid thing.:D

Pay attention, Sweet Pea.

The reason - and the only reason - Lucia is the coach of this team is because Joel Maturi sees fit to keep him the coach.

Plenty of Gopher head coaches have had their apologists. Mason and that basketball guy come immediately to mind.

That didn't prevent Maturi from ending their tenure, however.

When - if - the time comes, Maturi will let you know. And I can assure you he won't seek advice from the fan base.

Apologist or otherwise.

I don't understand why NDSU Bison ice hockey fans continue to post in Gopher threads.

Good riddance. Woog was THE worst analyst ever. Every call against the Gophers was a bad call and every thing that didn't go the Gophers way forced him to bring out a new box of Kleenex's. Too bad they didn't just can him for good.

Thanks for the words Pat Sweeney.

Re: MN Golden Gopher 2010 Offseason Thread

Very sad day for college hockey. Woog is my favorite announcer in any sport. Frank did a nice job showcasing Woog's amazing stories and experiences.

Wooger certainly was struggling this season, which probably explains this move. FSN probably can't fire him if "health issues" are involved.

So we replace Frank, who had so much passion for college hockey with another face jock. Flat out there is no replacing Woog.

I met Wooger twice and I can't tell you how gracious and nice he was (there's probably 10,000+ Gopher fans that have similar experiences). Just went straight into old time DU stories on the flip of the switch. The man is a living legend. He lives and breathes Gopher hockey.

To be honest they seem to be suggesting Woog might be gone this year as well.

As much as I didn't like Frank and Woog, I always thought it was because I didn't like the Gophers. To me, Frank and Woog WERE Gopher Hockey and this is really disappointing.

LaPanta doesn't have two bits of charisma to rub together when he does play by play.

Like I posted in the other thread Doug Woog is more likely gone.

Re: MN Golden Gopher 2010 Offseason Thread

Actually the Gophers have the second largest group of top 50 recruits among all schools according to CollegeHockey247.com. But what matters most is, what kind of work ethic will they demonstrate towards their development and when will Hill leave?;)

Interesting to see Calif with more on the list than Mass, and only one less than from Mich. Also players from AZ and TX. Can't hurt the future of the game.

Woog, while not always the clearest speaker, offers more insight into strategy than any color guy I can think of. His stories, while often goofy, are better than any as well. And if you listened to many local sportscasters hired to cover one team, you would know that Woog was about as honest and even on penalty calls (sometimes seemed to go overboard the other way) as any. If anything, he tended to want to see less calls overall for both teams, questioning calls when they didn't have any effect on outcome or chance for injury.

And Frank, while not great, did just fine for the level of hockey he was being paid for. He had become the recognizable voice for the Gophers. He did a good overall job of describing the play and had a good recall of Gopher history. LaPanta, when I have heard him, appears to be a step down in quality.

It sounds like Woog will still be a part of the broadcast...and that is good. Don't always agree with some of their opinions and takes, but they probably wouldn't like mine. But, really just wanted to reiterate your point and that is Doug woog is one of the best promoters in college hockey and a great guy to have a bump with at Sugar's or Stub and Herb's...always good natured and gracious with his time!

Re: MN Golden Gopher 2010 Offseason Thread

So they are going to replace Wooger with Darby, Chorske or Gorg? Two guys who combined have less personality than a dryer sheet or a fatarse who's constantly trying to relive the glory days of playing for Burnsville? Blah. There has to be a former Gopher who has some personality that can take over for Doug.

Sad to see Frank go. I liked him at least. LaPanta was terrible when he did some games earlier this year.

Good to hear though that we will get the Gophers in HD next year!

I don't buy that.....I'm not saying he's going to have a townhall meeting as to what the fan base thinks he should do but if he really thinks he doesn't have to answer to the fans, alum, and boosters, well then guess what.....him and Lucia can will get to use that carpool lane on their way to Job Service.

PS....I noticed you made it a point to include an 'if'. Does that mean you're not convinced he needs to go. And if so....I'm fascinated to hear as to why anyone would think that???? Unless you're Tony or Mario.....or maybe you're Ali?
