MLB 2022: Playing Ball, But Is Anyone Still Watching?

Maybe the college baseball tournament does need a mercy rule. Missouri State lead 12-0 today against Oklahoma State. MOSU should have negotiated for mercy at that point. They lost 29-15.

That turned like that Iowa-Indiana game. Missouri St was up 12-0 after three and down 17-14 after six.

Friday night LSU scored ten in the 8th to come back and beat Kennesaw.

Oklahoma State's regional games:

Game 1:
Missouri State - 5
Oklahoma State - 10
This one saw their early 6-0 lead whittle down to 6-4 before pulling away

Game 2:
Arkansas - 20
Oklahoma State - 12
They were up 10-5 after the sixth inning

Game 3 - elimination game:
Oklahoma State - 29
Missouri State - 15
Covered this one already. Down 12-0 after three innings, outscore them 29-3 the remaining six

Game 4 - win or go home:
Oklahoma State - 14
Arkansas - 10
F/10
Cowboys go up 6-2. Then down 8-7. Then up 10-8. Then Arkansas ties it in the bottom of the 9th. OSU puts up four in the 10th to win and force a winner take-all tomorrow. Going by their average score, tomorrow's projection is a 16-13 win.

That's been a crazy regional. I was laying in bed thinking about it after last night's game. I'm not sure which way to look at it.

OSU has scored 65 runs, and candidly, they are lucky to be alive in this regional, or, their pitching staff has given up 50 runs in four games and OSU is 3-1 in those games.

Looked at the RPI rankings and Alcorn State was in last place in the nation so I decided to take a look at their schedule. Wow… 2-39 with the third weakest schedule in the country.

Speaking of mercy rules, it looks like they were frequent users of them. It appears a vast majority of their games only went seven innings. Their opening series against McNeese St they went 0-4 getting outscored 57-3.

They had a game against Northwestern State that they lost 20-3 while only giving up 5 hits because they walked 17 batters. Their average score for the season was a 15-3 loss and they actually gave up 142 more runs than hits (685 to 483).

It’s tough being an HBCU athletic department, but those results are from an almost all-HBCU schedule, so it’s peer vs peer. You’d have to think some D3 schools would fare better.

Well, OU did end up losing a game in the WCWS. UCLA got 'em 7-3 earlier today to force a winner take-all game. But, the Sooners came up with an easy 15-0 win to move to the finals. Their 40th mercy rule win of the year.

Sooners - 553 runs scored, Opponents - 59
Bat Avg - .368, Opponents - .142
HR - 147, Opponents - 14
OPS - 1.200, Opponents - .436

None for that. Just this week.

For the record the Yankmees vs. the Twins:

-85-31 since 2006
-34-10 since 2015
-19-5 since 2018

The dominance has only improved over time despite the Twins having been "arguably" improved over the latter half of that stretch of seasons.

JFC Oklahoma is up 10-1 IN THE 3RD INNING!

And, to bring up mercy rules once again, they remove it for the championship series. 14-1 after 5.

Alo has two homers, a double, and a HBP. She's reached eight times in a row going back to last game. Now batting .518 on the year and 34 of her 84 hits on the year are homers.

Barring a huge upset, though Texas has done it once this season, this will be the last game for Alo.

Right now she has a slugging percentage of 1.228. The second best in the nation is 1.018. That difference is equal to the difference between 2nd and 23rd in the country.

She's actually only fifth in the country in hits, but because they've had so many mercy rule games they've lost the equivalent of ten games. Project that out and she'd be tied for first. Her total bases leads the nation at 199, 23 better than second. That despite having fewer at bats than anyone else in the Top 15.

I stayed up late because I had never seen Trout and Ohtani in a real game before.

K -- hey, this is easy!
Double
Homerun
Single
Double
Homerun
Homerun

It's still just the sixth inning.
