Re: MLB 2013 - This Bud's for you!

Gomez took four s-t-e-p-s then ran. Ahole move but the issue was freeman then McCann blocking his baseline
McCann should have been gone. That's bs
Somebody on the Braves acting like a sanctimonious ***? That never happens!

Re: MLB 2013 - This Bud's for you!

Potentially annoying mathematical predictions are coming your way, just as soon as there are only two AL Wild Card teams. Here's some initial parameters to wet your beak:
Code:
[SIZE=3][B]KRAPB[/B]
BOS	149.62
STL	139.69
OAK	134.02
PIT	130.93
TBR	129.36
ATL	128.73
DET	127.28
CLE	124.08
LAD	122.04
CIN	120.02
TEX	119.85[/SIZE]

Does this factor in how horrible Price has been against the Rangers, or that the Rangers are at home for this game 163?

It does not. The numbers above are just the relative strength of each team, and is calculated only from record and who played who, just like the original model KRACH (which you should be familiar with).

Ahh. So it also won't account for how teams are playing lately, etc.

PIT is way too high on the strength list due to accounting for the entire season. They started 70-44 (high water mark of season) and ended 24-24.

My expectations for the WC are that it will be:
@Rangers over Rays, and then Rangers over @Indians.
Reds over @Pirates.

Followed by:
Cardinals over Reds
Braves over Dodgers
Red Sox over Rangers
A's over Tigers

Followed by:
Red Sox over A's
Cardinals over Braves

Followed by:
Earth exploding.

That would be a rematch of the 2004, 1967 and 1946 World Series.

Yep, the model fails to account for some things that affect games. It can't consider home-field advantage, momentum, or starting pitching.

Also, as long as the Sox don't come back from 3-0 on the A's, I think the Cards will be fine in that scenario.

Re: MLB 2013 - This Bud's for you!

And now for one of those statistical oddities that only baseball can bring us.

Tonight's playoff is a regular season (game 163) game for Texas and Tampa Bay. Thus their pitchers need 163 innings to qualify for the ERA title and batters need 163 x 3.1 plate appearances to qualify for the batting title.

It's not an issue for anyone, but only in baseball can you have this sort of stuff.

Huh. I didn't realize those things scaled with season length. Has anyone ever lost a batting/pitching title because their team played in a tiebreaker?

Re: MLB 2013 - This Bud's for you!

The Sox start Friday at 3pm, then Saturday at 5:30pm. When are all the other series?

Re: MLB 2013 - This Bud's for you!

Texas just caught a HUGE break on a blown call in the OF. The ball very clearly bounced and was trapped but was ruled a catch, taking a run away and ending a rally. If the Rays lose by a run, we'll have an infield fly-like ****show again.

Re: MLB 2013 - This Bud's for you!

For the sake of the umpires and MLB, Tampa better win. That was a clear trap.

Re: MLB 2013 - This Bud's for you!

so grady is letting pedro stay out there, huh?
50 years ago, it was never the question. Your pitcher stayed in there until he was out of gas. Now it's push button managing. 9th inning with a lead <= 3 runs?? Bring in closer.

Glad to see Madden is saving his bullpen for Wednesday.

But in 2003, Pedro was close to E. Grady should have pulled him.

Re: MLB 2013 - This Bud's for you!

Of course, his closer is Fernando Rodney, and maybe Maddon didn't think his heart could take it.

Re: MLB 2013 - This Bud's for you!

Ok, the field is set, the numbers are crunched, here are the pre-postseason KRAPB predictions:

Code:
[b]WILD-CARD[/b]
------------------
|   |KRAPB|| LDS |
|----------------|
|PIT|130.9||[B]52.2%[/B]|
|CIN|120.0||47.8%|
|----------------|
|CLE|124.1||48.7%|
| TB|130.9||[B]51.3%[/B]|
------------------

[B]ALL ROUNDS[/B]
------------------------------------
|   |KRAPB|| W C | LDS | LCS | W S |
|----------------------------------|
|STL|139.6||-----|[B]54.97[/B]|[B]30.67[/B]|15.76|
|ATL|128.7||-----|[B]52.48[/B]|25.26|11.87|
|LAD|122.1||-----|47.52|21.50| 9.48|
|PIT|130.9||[B]52.17[/B]|24.50|12.81| 6.13|
|CIN|120.0||47.83|20.53| 9.76| 4.21|
|----------------------------------|
|BOS|149.8||-----|[B]57.49[/B]|[B]33.01[/B]|[B]19.06[/B]|
|OAK|133.9||-----|[B]52.36[/B]|24.91|12.87|
|DET|127.3||-----|47.64|21.37|10.45|
|CLE|124.1||48.66|20.07| 9.47| 4.50|
| TB|130.9||[B]51.34[/B]|22.44|11.24| 5.67|
------------------------------------

Oh yeah, disclaimers. KRAPB (KRACH for Professional Baseball) is retrodictive, not predictive. KRAPB does not care how you've done in the last 10 games. KRAPB does not care that your ace is on the mound and their big bat has a bad knee. KRAPB does not care that you're at home tonight and you haven't lost a game there since 1982. KRAPB does care who you've played and how many games you've won. That's it.

The ESPN talking/writing heads have weighed in with their picks.

1 person has Pittsburgh winning the World Series (out of 30).
4 people have Pittsburgh in the NLCS.
24 people have Pittsburgh in the NLDS.
