Re: MLB 2011 Part 1

Can we PUHLEEEZ ban the term walk-off!

As a colleague said on a sports broadcasting forum:

We can ban it from anything other than baseball. Nothing beats a walk off walk or walk off balk.

Re: MLB 2011 Part 1

The sad news for Bob Feller is that he died. The good news for him is, apparently he was still alive all these years.

Nice job by the Twins to let Matt Guierrer and Jesse Crain go and not sign anyone. I hope they have an actual plan that involves signing bullpen pitchers.

He's actually been very visible. He was always good for a great quote (he was a "character" which means he hadn't gotten the memo about political correctness), and when all the "Greatest Generation" BS started he was obviously a poster child since, well, he actually *did* do some amazing things.

There is wonderful footage of Feller throwing out there on the interwebs. Not the rigged stuff with him throwing against a motorcycle, but just simple un-narrated segments of him throwing in batting practice. It's about the closest we have of comparing him visually to what we are used to from pitchers now. He has a wonderfully spare delivery -- no wasted motion like Dean. It looks like he's getting a lot of Seaver-like drive from his legs. He looks like a modern pitcher, whereas most of the guys from his time have weird hitches and jerks in their motion.

Twins do sign Tsuyoshi Nishioka (SS/2B) from Japan to 3-yr $9.25 mil deal. With an option for 1 more year.

NY Mets tease fans with buildup of a "big signing," only to have the usual letdown at the end...

Hall of fame anyone? Bert finally assumed his rightful position in the Hall.
I was just looking at flights to get out there for it. Visiting the Hall of Fame is a must-see for me at some point, and seeing Bert get in might be the best chance I get.
