Re: MLB 2011 Part 1

Sounds like Beltran plus cash to the Giants for Zack Wheeler will go through sometime tonight. Terry Collins says he can't use Beltran in the game tonight.
This sounds like exactly the deal that was expected. Wheeler is problematic (atrocious control) but has upside and intelligence.

Re: MLB 2011 Part 1

Okay, so I just saw the play at the plate from last night's Pirates - Braves marathon. In my worst day ever behind the plate in over 30 years of umpiring baseball I would have never blown such an obvious call. No wonder Buccos fans are seriously PO'ed!

I don't know how he missed that. The throw was way ahead of him, the plate was blocked, the tag was applied before Lugo was anywhere near the plate...It was either a brain cramp or the ump just wanted the game to be over. The first is excusable (though not desirable), the second is a fire able offense.

When I first saw it, I thought maybe he missed the tag, I could see the ump thinking the same, especially with no replay. It looked like the tag could have gone right over his leg.
I'm not saying he's right, just that that's how it could look at first glance.

but look at the brave player...he is absolutely shocked to be called safe...obviously he felt the tag and thought he was out...

Like I said, I didn't say he was right, just that he could have seen the tag the way I did and he doesn't get to use replay. He has said he blew it and that's all he can do now.
What bothers me more is not the missed call, as long as there are humans in the game, there will be missed calls, it's the threatening calls to his home.
That's just disgusting.

"The Brave player" is Julio Lugo. Red Sox fans will realize that the reason he looks shocked is because he actually made it home without falling down. Or that he was still in shock because he got on base in the first place.

Re: MLB 2011 Part 1

What is wrong with you? Do you purposely pick the worst team in each sport to root for?

Bills, Knicks, Mariners, Rangers. That is utter crap! :D

I think he should drop Man U from his list of sports teams; they're clearly too good for him. I would recommend he follow Swansea City or West Brom... ;)

I thought the same thing.

We've all seen replays of force outs at 2nd starting a double play where the infielder doesn't step on the bag (runner still called out) and runners caught stealing when the replay shows a dramatic "Ole!" tag that never actually tags the runner (runner still called out). The lesson for the kids at home :p is: Tag the guy. Tag him solid. This isn't the NBA, where they say, "Well, that probably wasn't a foul, but you'll always get the call."

Re: MLB 2011 Part 1

Im sure he roots for Stony Brook as well

Oswego actually. And they have a national title in 07 and consecutive Frozen Fours.

As for the M's, i like them because of Jay Buhner. Jay played minor league ball in Watertown and then ended up with the Yanks (who were my favorite team). Then George ripped out my heart and traded him for Ken Phelps. I went with him to Seattle.

For your info, City fans are much worse than United because they think they have a sense of entitlement, but no resume to back it up. At least Liverpool and Arsenal fans have some silverware.

And the Knicks aren't the worse team in the league. If your theory was correct, I'd like the Bobcats or Nets.

I've just decided that Mitch Moorland is my favorite non-MN baseball player. Based completely on his music as he approaches the plate.

You would have been a fan of Brewers RF Corey Hart a few years ago. Came to the plate with "International Harvester" blaring.
