Re: MLB 2011 Part 1

As part of the ongoing debt negotiations, the Red Sox had to trade for Erik Bedard.

Re: MLB 2011 Part 1

If the Astros play .500 ball the rest of the way (quit laughing), they'll lose exactly 100 games.

Re: MLB 2011 Part 1

Ordonez homered in the 3rd, and then exchanged words with Jared Weaver a couple innings later. Guillen then hit a bomb to right, and admired it a bit.

I don't think it was so much the "admiring" but more staring down the pitcher and yelling at him as he was running to first. ;)

Re: MLB 2011 Part 1

Weaver had been bumping his gums as well. Weaver started a good chunk of this by MF-bombing Ordonez an inning or two earlier.

A Weaver gets beat and runs his lips. Go figure. We saw this movie a decade ago in Detroit with his brother and his shenanigans.

Re: MLB 2011 Part 1

Supposedly it started when Ordonez went yard earlier and was going really slowly as it was curving into the foul pole on the off chance it wasn't a homer, Weaver started yelling at him, then yelled at him some more on his next time around (fly out) so Guillen went Venezualen mafia on Weaver and had Ordonez' back in admiring his shot.

Re: MLB 2011 Part 1

Yup.

And then right after Weaver had quite a discussion with the home plate umpire, he threw the next pitch straight over Avila's head, and away we went. Weaver gets back to the dugout, and then he just happened to find his courage and starts yapping again.

He's gonna get a few games, and probably miss a start.

EDIT: And as I said at the time, in the Tiger thread, my initial thought was that Magglio yanked his foul. Later replays showed that it was indeed fair, but not by much.

Baseball scoring question - here at Fenway, Sox had bases loaded with no outs. Varitek strikes out on a wild pitch. Ortiz scored, Varitek runs to first, as I thought you could. Did that rule change or is only on a passed ball and not a wild pitch? Or am I misremembering?

Re: MLB 2011 Part 1

You're automatically out on a strikeout, even if the catcher doesn't hang on to the ball if there is a runner at first base.

Re: MLB 2011 Part 1

Ah, OK. Because it just happened again with Varitek only this time the bases were empty and the catcher had to throw him out. Thanks!

Re: MLB 2011 Part 1

Watching the Twins-Angels game, looking at the backstop, what is so ludicrous about august 6th that they feel the need to put it on the backstop? And they even spelled ludicrous wrong!

OK, I know you're pretending to not know who Ludacris is, but c'mon, he just did a song with Jason Aldean!!!!

Re: MLB 2011 Part 1

Not that they play on k102...and I have the most recent Jason Aldean CDs and the only duet is with Kelly Clarkson.
There is a version of Dirt Road Anthem where Ludacris raps a verse...

Younger Weaver is suspended for 6 games.

Oh, that's the black guy that ****ed up Dirt Road Anthem at the CMT awards. I can't believe they let that guy butcher such a great song.

Re: MLB 2011 Part 1

I'm not an A Rod fan, but I wonder if Sox fans Damon and Affleck called up the commish to drop a dime on Alex playing poker? :D
