MLB 2010: The Second Half

Re: MLB 2010: The Second Half

Are you talking about the one that took down Morgan? I don't blame him for that. If you're coming out to the mound to swing at the pitcher, you're obviously coming to fight. Maybe if Morgan hadn't tried to steal <strike>a base</strike> two bases when the score was 14-3 he wouldn't have been thrown at.

If they don't like Morgan stealing on them, the Marlins should have thrown him out. And why shouldn't Morgan have been trying to steal bases when the Nats were down by a touchdown? They almost came back and won that mess.

I completely agree. Also, the first baseman was totally in his right to smack that a hole. He went after the pitcher. You have to protect the pitcher.

Still it is an unwritten rule in a blow out you do not steal bases. Teams just want to end the game the fastest way possible. Some people say Ricky Henderson did this to pad his stats but nonetheless.

I have to agree with DL here. Until the game is over, you should still be trying to win; I'd rather see that than my team giving up, if I had paid for a ticket to the game. Plus I think the rare instances when teams do come back from big deficits become some of people's favorite baseball memories. For instance, I hear a lot of people talk about this game as one of their top few Mets games of all time, and that never happens if the Mets pack it in when they're down 8-1 with six outs to make a comeback. (And really with four outs to make a comeback; they scored all those runs with two out in the bottom of the 8th inning.) That was only in the fourth inning that Morgan stole those bases, that's a lot of time for a team to come from behind.

So, somebody played a funny prank on Kelly Johnson.

(Video, safe for work, needs audio or you won't get it; hat tip to TedQuarters.)

Re: MLB 2010: The Second Half

So, when your team is down a dozen runs, the "unwritten rule" is that you don't steal bases to extend the game, because then the other team will throw at you, giving you another freaking baserunner and extending the game?

Here's an idea. Baseball's "unwritten rules" suck. And I played the stupid sport for 12 years. Just have a ****ing mercy rule if everyone is going to get so butthurt, despite allegedly being grown men and professionals. Act like 8 year old girls, have some rules like them, too.

that is incredibly stupid. if you are the winning team you dont steal bases in a blowout. if the marlins were so concerned about the game getting over faster they wouldnt have scored 15 runs in the first place.. or intentionally put batters on base by hitting them.

i dont condone what morgan did in charging the mound. but what the marlins did is dallas braden stupid.

That fight was awesome. That is what I care about the most. The rest is just details.

what stevie said.

(and i think batters should be allowed to 'lose the bat' and throw it at the pitcher while swinging - whoops! )

It's a real simple concept that everyone ought to get from all walks of life. If you act like a dick to people, don't be surprised if they act like a dick right back.

Re: MLB 2010: The Second Half

No, no. Other way around. The Lakeland Tiger pitchers took a no-no into the 14th.

And yet it took the Lakeland Tiger batters 17 innings to put together enough offense to seal the game.

Re: MLB 2010: The Second Half

8 more games for Morgan, on top of the 7 he's appealing.
6 for Volstead
3 for Gabby Sanchez
2 for Riggleman
3 for Listach
2 for FLA's manager

Re: MLB 2010: The Second Half

Cincy pitcher Travis Wood just hit his first career HR. This kid is a pretty good athlete. He laid down a sac bunt in the second and busted it down the line. The throw only beat him by a half step.

Re: MLB 2010: The Second Half

Chapman has come in relief. 2 of his first three pitches have hit 101 mph. His fourth pitch was 103. Miles was just a tad overmatched :)
