MLB 2010: The Second Half

Re: MLB 2010: The Second Half

Apparently Aroldis Chapman touched 105 on the radar gun twice last night in a minor league game. After the first one they changed the batteries in the radar gun, and he did it again.

He made his major league debut last night and went 1-2-3 against the bottom of the Brewers order (Lucroy, Counsell, Gomez). Was throwing very hard (hit 102) and almost all strikes - the modest crowd in Cincinnati was very excited (what's up with that, by the way? first place and having trouble drawing fans?) I wonder if Chapman would be so cavalier about throwing strikes to, say, Prince Fielder. :)

He's either going to throw it by Fielder, or it's going to land in Tennessee.

Re: MLB 2010: The Second Half

Personally, I like seeing pitchers that are struggling get mad. Throw your glove and blow some of the steam off. It's reassuring to see them react to a bad performance. It reminds you they still actually care.

Another way to show they care is playing better.

He hit 103.

and Atlanta is having the same problem for some reason. Tonight looks a little better but for a first place club for a majority of the season, playing one of their rivals, it's been a very light crowd at Turner Field the last few nights against the Mets.

Braves tickets used to be extremely tough to get, then they didn't win the NL East for the first time in 15 years and the fans started dwindling. Now it's impossible to get Phillies tickets. Five years ago, reverse the Braves and Phils situations.

Perhaps it was because those teams were so good, but late 90's Braves NLDS games usually didn't sell out. I guess fans just assumed the Braves would play for the NL pennant.

Re: MLB 2010: The Second Half

Washington's had some real mental midgets running around in their outfield the last 3-4 years. They've had Morgan, Elijah Dukes and Lastings Milledge in that time span, and all three of them have more issues than Time Magazine.

Are you talking about the one that took down Morgan? I don't blame him for that. If you're coming out to the mound to swing at the pitcher, you're obviously coming to fight. Maybe if Morgan hadn't tried to steal <strike>a base</strike> two bases when the score was 14-3 he wouldn't have been thrown at.

Now just imagine if Kyle Farnsworth had been pitching for the Marlins. We might still be picking pieces of Morgan's skull out of the infield. He likes to fight, too, and he's good at it.

I don't like he went for the guys head with a clothesline.....even if Morgan should have his head ripped off. ;) Tackle him or whatever I'm fine with & I suspect MLB will suspend the M's first baseman for a while simply to set a precedent.

Re: MLB 2010: The Second Half

I think the 1st baseman is getting 5-7 games. Morgan is already appealing a suspension, and might be done for the season.

The Marlins don't like this cat in the first place (and quite frankly, I don't think he's got too many fans elsewhere, either). And he's going to the mound to take a swing at the pitcher. Someone's bound to put one on his chin.

In his second career (which may be sooner rather than later) Morgan will be a great WWF villian.

Re: MLB 2010: The Second Half

Don't be surprised of Morgan has played his last game as a National.

I know better than this, but I can't imagine why another team would be interested in him. I mean, when Pittsburgh is fed up with a guy, there's a problem. That's why they shipped him off to Washington. I wouldn't think any decent organization is going to have any interest in him, so that leaves, what, KC, Cleveland, Seattle, Houston and Baltimore? He's 30. He's not a young kid anymore. Seattle is dealing with the Milton Bradley circus, and I would guess that they're not interested, and I don't think Buck Showalter wants him within 50 miles of Baltimore, so they're out. That leaves KC, Houston and Cleveland. I would also think the Cubs have learned their lesson after Soriano and Zambrano as well. KC is trying to go young, so either Houston or Cleveland is his next stop.

Ozzie might kill him, and then go kill Kenny Williams for sending this idjit to Chicago in the first place. I would pay money to see the execution. Ozzie's a sober Billy Martin.

Re: MLB 2010: The Second Half

Great fight though :D

I wonder if Manny will trim his hair.

Which also makes me wonder, how many MLB teams have hair cutting policies?

I thought only the Yanks do, but obv I will be wrong in that thought.

Yeah same. I think the Dodgers wanted him to clean it up bit as well. Which he did but obviously he didn't have to his Cleveland days length.
