Let's also not forget the Ms are looking for a catcher from what I hear.

That's what the Yankees are offering.
The Yanks like Montero a great deal, but they were willing to use him as bait for both Lee and Roy Halladay in the offseason. They are deep in catching prospects and could never be sure that Montero could actually make it as a catcher in the majors since that is the suspect area of the game. He is considered one of the elite hitting prospects in the minors, though he was hitting just .253 with six homers and 34 RBIs this season at Triple-A.

Re: MLB 2010: Hope Springs Eternal

Yankees are about to acquire Lee from the Yankees.

This is going too far. :D

So if someone acquires Lee his first appearance in his new uniform could be at the All-Star Game.

Cross posted the wrong post.

I was going to ask here why there is no news on MLB.com about this trade?

Here.

If they can get the paperwork in I wonder if he can pitch against Seattle tonight? (I still think this is an inferior deal for the Mariners.)

Lookout Landing, the Mariner SB Nation blog, just started a consolidated news thread on it; it will be interesting to see what other M's fans think of this as it develops.

Latest guess/tweets/whatever seems to be:

Lee for Jesus Montero, David Adams, and Zach McAllister. The inclusion of McAllister seems to have pushed a lot of M's fans from "sounds good" to "wow, that's amazing" territory. Hard to believe we'll really get a huge haul for a rental the Yankees can just dump a helicopter load of money on in November.

The drunkard's walk that is this negotiation has now lurched towards Arlington.

BTW, The Mariners apparently asked the Mets for Ike Davis. For a rental. Well, it never hurts to ask.

Love the math reference.

Re: MLB 2010: Hope Springs Eternal

Cashman would have to be brain dead to do that deal - even if Lee were to sign an extension now. Just wait for November, the Yanks should be able to "squeak by" and make the playoffs with their existing starting rotation.

Don't be dumb and don't be LeBron.

Re: MLB 2010: Hope Springs Eternal

Ken Rosenthal says the deal is done.

With the Rangers.

That was weird. I posted that the deal was almost done between the Yanks and M's, took a nap and now Lee is a Ranger...

True that.

Cashman's about the last GM who's going to be taken advantage of. He knows he's practically always in a position of strength and if he doesn't want something, screw it.

Keeping Jesus Montero? Yes, please.

Re: MLB 2010: Hope Springs Eternal

Travis Wood has a Very Special Pitching Performance in progress at Philly tonight... and Doc Halladay isn't doing too bad, either.
