Minnesota Women's Hockey Off-Season 2015: #BASK

Re: Minnesota Women's Hockey Off-Season 2015: #BASK

Wow, for just an incoming freshman Miss Sophie sure seems like a very mature young lady! Looking forward to seeing her develop this coming season!

YES! I thought the same thing…a very impressive interview!

I saw this link posted by Iceburg on the women's recruiting thread on GPL which shows Amy Potomak (Sarah's younger sister) committed to Minnesota. He mentions that he has not seen any other information on this and I haven't either. Does anyone have any information to confirm this? Here is the link:

Anybody got any info on the Whitecaps? Their website hasn't been updated for ages. There's no roster or anything. Someone want to share some info on our exhibition opponent.

I did hear a rumor that 2 Lams may be playing in the game

The man behaved like a fool and makes you question what other things might be found with further investigation.
I assume it was established I didn't think much of the guy from the get go. I think the U can hire better. Let's hope they do before long.

"This neither reflects my true character or true character of this great, great university.

I'm extremely proud of our accomplishments during my tenure here and I don't want my personal life to impact the university's reputation.

I've taken immediate steps to get help with my alcohol issues and I take full responsibility for my actions."

sounds like he's not going to be modifying his approach to chasing ladies

he was chasing ladies right? you gotta ask that question about people at the U

I keep forgetting, I have to fill in the blanks for you people

he's going to address his drinking , which apparently is the problem, otherwise he's a great guy ;)
no doubt if he wasn't sauced, his communication with the objects of his affection would have gone much differently, and certainly wouldn't have been harassing
heck, they probably would have felt complimented and impressed by his mastery of socializing with technology

From earlier discussion, yes.

Discretion has already gone out the window. ;)

My views on this are colored by the fact that, for a couple of years now, I've considered "being Norwood Teague" to be a fireable offense all by itself.

I met the guy twice & was not impressed either time. My assumption was that he had one goal when he was brought in, to make it rain. He did that apparently as they are building a multi-million dollar palace for the football and basketball teams to lounge around in during the off-season. I assume he was exactly what the powers that be wanted they just didn't want the extra curriculars. I'm guessing he will be replaced with another rainmaker & not with an athletic director who cares about the sports; the guys downtown who hated Maturi because the football team didn't win but the 'minor' sports did demand nothing less than a guy who can shake the money tree and get the U into the top 10 in the football poll & sweet 16 in squeekball.

Obviously "being Norwood Teague" (kind of an ironic first name when you think of it) wasn't the answer but I don't think being a "rainmaker" and "caring about sports" need to be mutually exclusive.

It's a matter of emphasis. All athletic directors are charged with raising lots of money, and all athletic directors are charged with actually running the sports. The two elements are not mutually exclusive, but prioritizing one is mutually exclusive with prioritizing the other.

They are when the only sports you care about are the ones that generate donations from the big money boys downtown. At Minnesota that is football, men's basketball and, a distant third, men's hockey. The previous AD paid attention to those other "lesser" sports and the result was a number of very successful programs like a national golf championship, womens hockey championships, wrestling, volleyball and a couple of other contenders. Ol Woodie did not appear to support those sorts of things and there was a greatly increase emphasis on soaking the booster clubs. I don't expect that will change. They still have not got the entire $200,000,000 for the palace being built just for practice & locker rooms for foot & basket, it would be nice if the new AD at least pretended to care about something else.

Re: Minnesota Women's Hockey Off-Season 2015: #BASK

Pretty clear this is more deep-seated problem than just too much to drink.
Or he was drunk often. In any case, I agree that we cannot excuse bad behavior because someone is under the influence. If one acts badly when intoxicated, then it is his/her responsibility to not create these situations, and that most often means by remaining sober.

Re: Minnesota Women's Hockey Off-Season 2015: #BASK

Alcohol impairs judgment. I'm afraid I would conclude the guy is a lecherous tool first, and likely is when sober too. Alcohol merely impairs his ability to restrain himself.

Re: Minnesota Women's Hockey Off-Season 2015: #BASK

When he held the job of AD I tried really hard to pretend he didn't actually exist so I'm hoping that becomes easier now

To that end: I noticed that the NHL's outdoor game is planned for the weekend that Wisconsin is in MN for a pair. What are the odds we will have to freeze our fannies off while watching some tiny, distant, dots doing something out there on what is probably a hockey rink this coming winter? My excitement over the prospect is palpable.

Re: Minnesota Women's Hockey Off-Season 2015: #BASK

you people are being much too harsh on Ol' Woody, and too quick to judgement
just because there is a physical similarity to Homer Simpson, it isn't necessarily true there is a mental and behavioral one as well.
