Minnesota Women's Hockey: Off Season 2010

Re: Minnesota Women's Hockey: Off Season 2010

I have to be honest...I'll also experience some fairly severe disappointment if MBTC is wrong. At least it's an opportunity to see this questionable rule applied in action.

Renee, still the all time highest scoring player in Minnesota girls high school hockey history. The injury and premature end / elimination of her college hockey career was a heartbreaker for Gopher fans and devastating for her obviously. Great to see she has moved on in such a positive manner. I have to agree...it would have been great to see the Ronda & Renee play together for the Maroon & Gold.

Re: Minnesota Women's Hockey: Off Season 2010

Pardon me for not having followed along, but what exactly does this mean?

Of course we like Canadians.

Brittany Francis.

Bobbi Ross.

And in the formative years, one of the greatest Gophers ever, Nadine Muzerall.

What exactly was the question here?

Thanks Wizard, we like Americans also. Great competition.:) In case you didn't know, I like to goof around a lot. It's fun. Brookone knew where I was at, that's all that matters. Right Brooky?;)

Just that...and my jackpot winning Sat. July 24th Powerball ticket...at the moment.

Oops...one more thing, the countdown to Sep. 26th when I get my first look at a bunch of excellent Canadian and American players on the ice and a Minnesota jersey on their backs. I'm ready.

You won't be disappointed, that's for sure. Trust me. Like I said a while back, the toughest thing the coach will have to deal with is ice time. I hope the coach didn't make too many promises when recruiting, because a stacked team certainly has it's challenges. Nice problem though.:)

Re: Minnesota Women's Hockey: Off Season 2010

I guess the other interesting piece of the Manitoba game will be the likelihood that we're not going to see as much of the 1st or 2nd lines as we probably will when the games count. I would expect everyone to be dressed since it is only an exhibition, and there will definitely be some line juggling so that Frosty, Joel, and Natalie can get a feel for the lower line combinations in game situations.

Re: Minnesota Women's Hockey: Off Season 2010

I'm disappointed when they don't play well in March. I'll give them some latitude to struggle in September.
So are you therefore taking the position that it won't bother you in the slightest if they suck against Manitoba?

Don't mean to speak for ARM, but I don't think he meant that at all. They should dominate Manitoba in this first exhibition game, no matter what the line combinations and how much line juggling there will be.

I think ARM was referring to the beginning of the season in general, and that consistently improving so that you're in a position to win the games that really count at the end is much more important than your record early on.

My guess is that the Manitoba exhibition will be kind of a sloppy affair, as players will be trying to prove themselves individually in order to move up in the lineup. But in the end the talent differential will ensure a large margin of victory, even though team chemistry is not nearly what it needs to be.

Kicking off the 2008-09 season, the Gophs played pretty well in an exhibition against the US Selects, then they were MIA in the first game that counted in losing to RMU. This past season, a hard-fought loss to the future US Olympians in an exhibition, followed by a rather spotty run over the next two months. So I don't place a lot of importance in exhibition results, particularly against teams like Manitoba that I know zilch about. I'd rather Minnesota plays well, but I'll definitely attempt to not let the results in Ridder on September 26 interfere with my sleep going forward.

Is this the game with the 65 to 10 SOG advantage over RMU and Brianne McLaughlin playing like the Olympian she later became? I thought I recalled the Gophers bringing the heat pretty well during much of that game but running into a spectacular outing for McLaughlin.

Let's not forget one of the finest Canadian's ever....Mr. John Molson!

Re: Minnesota Women's Hockey: Off Season 2010

For what it's worth, this little D-III follower from Plattsburgh spent the weekend in Minneapolis on the U of M campus for a journalism convention. The facilities, both hockey rinks and football stadium, completely blew me away. Stepping into Ridder, I could just picture that GW goal in the chip. Chilling.

Just a brief off topic detour. It's summertime in St. Paul / Minneapolis...and a new world record is established.

She played a game not that much different than one sees from the opposing goalie on many nights in the WCHA. The Gophers did little until they were down 3-0. I'd rather see the team play better and fire fewer shots. Anyway, the point is that with how competitive this season figures to be, we can't afford such an indifferent start in any game. The late 6-on-4 goal against Robert Morris made that game appear closer than it really was. Struggles in games that don't count (exhibitions) are more easily digested.

Re: Minnesota Women's Hockey: Off Season 2010

From the GWH Facebook page...verified on the GWH Gophersports page schedule:

Gopher fans-A change in the schedule. On October 8, the Maine game has been replaced by an exhibition game with the Minnesota Whitecaps. Come out and see some former Gophers!
I'm a little disappointed...was hoping to watch the former Pony in a Black Bear uniform.
