Minnesota Women's Hockey: Off Season 2010

Re: Minnesota Women's Hockey: Off Season 2010

Is Maine bailing on the western trip at this late date?
Apparently the Maine budget, as discussed in their thread, is an issue for this game.

For those who don't want to wait until September for activities related to Gopher hockey, this month has a couple of opportunities. The second annual GWH Golf Open will be held on August 16th, and the booster club is looking to drum up support at the Minnesota State Fair on August 30th. More info can be found on the PPC site.

I'll assume that it'll be the same situation for the scheduled game vs. the Huskies. I tend to agree with opinions expressed in the Maine thread...kind of bush league. You should have all issues worked out prior to scheduling games. Now you're causing other teams to scramble...finding opponents to replace Maine on your schedules at a late stage. Good for the Gophers the Whitecaps are in the neighborhood. That should be a good tune up for Minnesota.

It'll be interesting to see how many from last year's roster
(http://www.minnesotawhitecaps.com/team/minnesota-whitecaps/) will play for them this year. At least I think this is last year's roster?

Assuming the core of their team returns and they will have had some good practices together as a unit by then, they should prove to be a much better matchup (and provide a better learning experience) than Maine would have. No doubt they will have some extra motivation on how to teach the "young college girls" a lesson or two about how to play the game.

We prairie folk find it a little surprising and a tad ironic that Ms. Gillanders... who hails from Kyle, Saskatchewan, actually became a Gopher.

The Saskatchewan Goverment, in mid march of this year officially declared Gophers as "Pests" by adding the furry beige rodents to the Provinces "Pest Control Act".

Saskatchewan has declared that they want the Gophers out...and here's what you can do to help. :D

It would appear that her sister has become a Golden Knight and will surely be welcomed home to Saskatchewan at Christmas....however, due to the recent changes in the "Pest Control Act of Saskatchewan" we don't like the chances of her sibling gopher being able to return with her...

Ha ha, very clever, but quoting from your article, in the 'Did you Know?' box: "Gophers are a Saskatchewan icon. The mascot for the province’s football team is a gopher. The town of Eston is home to a 2.5-metre-tall gopher statue."

Looks like they might be throwing her a parade when they welcome her back for Christmas. ;) Or maybe her home town of Kyle will build a statue of Goldy in her honor...

I've seen her play over the years...no doubt there will be a parade somewhere in her future.

Good Luck to her.

There will be two very good Minnesota Teams at NAHA. The Minnesota Jr. Whitecaps and Minnesota IceCats who finished 2nd last year at NAHA.

Both Teams are made up of the top players in MN who play HS Hockey where 3500 girls play HS hockey in MN. There are only three JR AAA in MN - Shattuck, Thoroughbreds and the HS post grad program MN Crunch. These two teams play each other in weekend jamborees which also include alumni of the programs who are playing D1 and in summer tournaments. Following are possible players who will travel and play.
Minnesota JR Whitecaps
F/D Rachel Ramsey, Minnetonka, MN - commited to Minnesota
D Milica McMillen USA 18/Breck School St. Paul. - committed to Minnesota '12
D Lee Stecklein USA 18/Roseville Roseville High School - committed to Minnesota '12
F Meghan Lorence, USA/18's/Irondale, Moundsview, MN - commited to Minnesota
F Hannah Brandt, USA U18/Hill Murray School, Vadinas Heights - committed to Minnesota '12
Wow! Looks Like Frosty's on a nice roll.

Gopher women's hockey is on the stage at the State Fair tomorrow at noon if anyone is interested in attending the U of M building.
