Minnesota @ Wisconsin.. the greatest rivalry in college hockey.

Re: Minnesota @ Wisconsin.. the greatest rivalry in college hockey.

Given the "defense for the ages", brick wall goaltending, bestest PK evah!, and scoring machine, I don't know why the Gophers are even going to Madison.:( They should just forfeit, stay home and save the travel money.

Your ideas are intriguing and I wish to subscribe to your newsletter.

This is a serious question: Aren't your goalies a by-product of your great team defense? I doubt that the opposition gets many clean looks. How many scoring chances did UNH/'Kato have that were good solid scoring chances? I'm not saying Bennett/Gudmanson aren't good goalies, I'm just curious what your (or any Badger's fan) take is.

Honestly, I don't think anyone can answer this question. Too early in the season to say if the goalies can hold their own. The games I have been to, Gudmanson looked better than Bennett......is that because the D played better on those nights? What do other bucky fans think?

Re: Minnesota @ Wisconsin.. the greatest rivalry in college hockey.

I've got Friday seats, so I've seen Bennett twice, against CC and UNH. I thought he played really well against CC. Out of the 3 goals, the first one he had a shot at stopping, but had no chance on the other two. UNH he got hung out on the 2-0 rush and got beat on a good move. Haven't seen him make a "WOW" save yet, but hasn't had to. Couple of pucks have also leaked through that got cleared by the D. He does play the puck much more then any goalie we have had in a while. Only thing that has bothered me so far is that for being a bigger goalie, he crouches pretty low and doesn't take up as much net as he could.

Have not seen Guddy this year, but from what I have seen in the past and read this year, not a whole lot of difference between the two. I was never a big fan of Connelly, so the fact that he push for more playing time leads me to question how much better he could be.

So looking forward to $2.50 pitchers at Brothers before the game!!!

The goaltender is the last line of defense. For the most part, if they see the shots, they'll stop them. On the other hand, positioning is as important as anything. If a 'tender is screened, he must put himself in a position to stop the puck. Sure, they see many untouched pucks throughout a game, but most people have NO idea how many pucks are tipped during a game, only to have the puck hit the goalie...because of positioning.

We've all seen goaltenders react AFTER a puck hits them, because they were positioned to make a save, even though they never saw the puck.

Of course the new buzz-word, athleticism, really helps as well.

I've always considered the pipe to be the last line of defense. I've seen the pipe win a lot of hocley games over the years. ;)

True dat...the pipes and the cross bar are the goalies best friend :o . They are to goalies as diamonds are to da ladies.

Not true, shots hitting the pipe (if they didn't hit the goalie first) are not shots on net. Pipes and crossbars are overrated.:D

Time to meet the little lady downtown; nice chatting. I hope the crowd is geeked up and the Badgers play 60 min tonight. Stop up & say HI, I'll be wearing red.

Losers wear maroon and gold.

They'll be wearing red and white tonight. ;)

Jersey? Check.
Adult beverage of choice? Check.
Snack food? Check.

Ok, they can drop the puck anytime now.

Badgers suck. Their fans suck. Their team suck. Their arena sucks. And the state definitely sucks.

I hope Minnesota crushes you.

Well, Kangas is back to last years form. Only a matter of time I guess. Meanwhile the red and white goaltender gave up nothing he shouldn't have.

Grats.

Minnesota will have to be a desperate team tomorrow, but somehow I doubt they will be.

I'm surprised that the DotA gave up 2 goals. And one on the PP.

Congrats on the win, Badger fans.

Tomorrow is a new day, and a new hope. I better strengthen that KoolAid. I think I'll need it.
