Minnesota @ Wisconsin.. the greatest rivalry in college hockey.

Re: Minnesota @ Wisconsin.. the greatest rivalry in college hockey.

Interesting. I guess Sachetti is going to get his shot despite not doing much as of yet.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say that Minnesota's line 3 is going to have to produce something if Minnesota is going to win a game this weekend.

It's be nice to have line 4 chip in but I doubt it. I'll look for them to end up a zero in +/- for the weekend.

At the risk of looking stupid (oh, hell, I don't care what I look like), can you explain the "Safety School" chant to me?

Re: Minnesota @ Wisconsin.. the greatest rivalry in college hockey.

I believe the premise of the chant is that Minnesota is considered a "Safety School" because if you can't get into other schools like Wisconsin, Iowa, Michigan, etc. you can just go to UM because they have lower standards. The first time I heard it, I didn't get it either, but had some fans next to me explain it and got a good laugh out of it.

Wow, yeah, that's a good one.

Alright, I've got one that I need explained also. What's with the lowercase "t" in tDon, tUMD, tDoo etc.

Been wondering for a while...

the.

I believe it started with "the Ohio State University". Now everyone thinks it's cool.

Re: Minnesota @ Wisconsin.. the greatest rivalry in college hockey.

Possibly. But nothing beats the "Racist Mascot" or "Sue's a girl name" chant anyways.

That's pretty bad if those are your best chants that you can come up with when you play the Sioux. :p

But no worries, I don't get offended by chants by rival teams anyway, especially ones by a student section that spends more time dancing than they do watching the game. :)

It started with UMD. beersong I think used it first. It stems from Monday Night Football when players who played for Ohio State would always introduce themselves as blah, blah, THE Ohio State University.

So, UMD started using it and it caught on. Occasionally now it will be used as shorthand for the word "the". I probably should pull that out of my signature cause I really can't remember whey it's there anymore.

Hmmm. Worked just the opposite for me.

There might be some better ones. I enjoyed the "Sarah Palin" chant when UAA came to town last year. "Gopher Rejects" is a common one for other Minnesota schools and "Denver Rejects" for CC. I'm sure I'm forgetting a lot of them, but hopefully the Grateful Red come up with some good ones tonight.

If it were spellers vs. dancers the badgers win. After all, they do a couple different repetitive obnoxious dances right?

Yep. It was a shot at tOSU, and it's "reserved" for super awesome people, places, or things. Also used in a sarcastic manner at times.

Is it game time yet? Finally, a normal tv night when I can sit at home, relax, and pay total attention to the game.

Re: Minnesota @ Wisconsin.. the greatest rivalry in college hockey.

With the goofs unfortunate injuries, and the Badgers perhaps getting on track, is it too much to expect a sweep if we play to our potential?

I hate to make predictions because I've seen recent Badger hockey teams come out flat and get their azzes handed to them when they were expected to win. I'm not being bitter, just realistic.....until I am proved wrong.

You can expect one if you want to but Minnesota is not going to roll over and die for them. Minnesota has gotten progressively better as the year has gone on, but admittedly they are still waiting for a few players to step up their game to the level they should be at. This weekend will either be a step forward or a step back. I expect they are going to go forward.
