Minnesota @ Wisconsin.. the greatest rivalry in college hockey.

Re: Minnesota @ Wisconsin.. the greatest rivalry in college hockey.

With the goofs unfortunate injuries, and the Badgers perhaps getting on track, is it too much to expect a sweep if we play to our potential?

Given the "defense for the ages", brick wall goaltending, bestest PK evah!, and scoring machine, I don't know why the Gophers are even going to Madison.:( They should just forfeit, stay home and save the travel money.

Those statements do not represent the opinion of the entire fan base.

I just threw it out there, boys...you can unbundle your undies ;) ! As I wrote I don't predict or expect. Some people keep telling us how good we are, and telling us how UMn has struggled....that's why I asked the question.

I've been a part of WI-MN hockey for many, many years. (In past years I've written how the Cub Scouts used to seat me at the old Williams....many times next to people who paid $2 less than I did  ). Not to use a cliché, but when these 2 meet, throw out the stats; it's a new day; one game at a time; 1 and O mentality; oooops.

Gophers will not lose this weekend. Write it down.

I'd take you up on it for an Outback Steakhouse $75 gift card, but I already lost it to my bro-in-law from MN on that Favre-thing last weekend. :o

I offered the usual lb-of-bacon bet to Con for a "most points in the series" bet, but haven't heard back from him. :( I'll have to try and contact him today, I think.

IF the Badgers win tonight, I'll get out my Golden Choker pin for Saturday night. It would be premature to wear it tonight, however.

I like that move more than putting White or Hansen up there.

Yeah, I have no problem with that. One of these sophmores that was recruited to score better start finding the twine. Sachetti, Hansen, whoever.

I hate to make predictions because I've seen recent Badger hockey teams come out flat and get their azzes handed to them when they were expected to win. I'm not being bitter, just realistic.....until I am proved wrong.

I think UW needs to be cautious of the results for this season. UNH's goalie came in with probably slightly below average stats and UW sieved him pretty good. The game UW killed Kato, thier goaltending was not good either.

Against better than average goaltending UW is 0-2-1.

So here's the loaded question...Is Kangass a sieve or not? Rodent fans say no, UW fans say yes. It may not matter the way UW's goaltenders are playing right now. UW may only need 2-3 goals to win each game. Both UW's goalies are playing better than Connelly last year.

This is a serious question: Aren't your goalies a by-product of your great team defense? I doubt that the opposition gets many clean looks. How many scoring chances did UNH/'Kato have that were good solid scoring chances? I'm not saying Bennett/Gudmanson aren't good goalies, I'm just curious what your (or any Badger's fan) take is.

Re: Minnesota @ Wisconsin.. the greatest rivalry in college hockey.

If Wisconsin's success is entirely based on whether or not Kangas is really a sieve, well, let's just say I like Minnesota's chances to get the brooms out this weekend.

You are correct in saying that, but Connelly had practically the same defense in front of him (Minus McBain, Add in Schulz and Ramage) while Bennett/Gundmanson are playing better than he did so far.

Shots on goal the past two weeks have been UW 168, opponent 81. The one game UW lost, shots on goal were about equal.

I don't know, Tim, I think the Badgers' actually showing up and generating good offense had quite a bit to do with the wins, not just the opposing goaltender's play.

And as far as the losses/tie go, yeah, the opposing goalies may have played well, esp in the Fri night CC game. But the Badgers had a couple of bad defensive breakdowns that night, were flat for the Sat CC game, and were flat for much of the Sat Mankato game (and when they finally started generating offense they shot themselves in the foot with 2 CFBs). I think their record against average goaltending could easily be much better it is.

Re: Minnesota @ Wisconsin.. the greatest rivalry in college hockey.

The magic number this weekend is probably 3. First team there wins both nights.
