He's not getting much love from Dan and John on radio. "This guy came to camp as a non roster invitee and somehow he was better than other pitchers in the organization?"

I think their call when Span was picked off in the 1st was that Chen's pickoff move was "not that good."

But did they try to blame the dirt on the field when Span got picked off like Dick and Bert did earlier this year?

Man, why are we wasting a roster spot on Delmon...he sucks! It must be true, I read it on the interweb :p

Does anyone remember when players would get concussions in sports and be back in a week? Lately concussions have turned into season ending injuries in all sports!

A week? Hell, they'd be back for the third period!

The following was said elsewhere in a thread ripping Gardy for calling Cuddy this year's MVP so far:

You missed the context, this is about the MVP of his heart. Punto fell to number 2 on the list.

:D

Yeah, and you'd have guys like Pat LaFontaine who suffered something like 8-9 concussions before calling it a career. Multiple concussions = long-term neurological problems, so I can see why they've started treating them more seriously than in the past (that and medical personnel probably have a much larger say in when a player can return to the lineup now than ever before).

Re: Minnesota Twins 2010 Season Part III, {sigh}

Yes I get that, but it just seems odd that now athletes report having dizzy spells weeks after concussions when before that never seemed to be the case.

Hm, get paid, get the doc's support in sitting out, and do nothing?

Although, being an optimist, maybe the players just didn't say anything before, so they wouldn't risk being sat and losing their jobs?

Or today's players are "pansies" compared to players of yore (which actually is probably true).

Or the teams don't want some sort of lawsuit (dunno how that would work) if they "forced" the player to play despite difficult-to-prove effects of an injury.

That just means LaFontaine isn't a puss. :)

This probably has a lot to do with it - the mindset is totally different.
Or today's players are "pansies" compared to players of yore (which actually is probably true).
Or less was known about concussions and their long-term consequences back then.
Or the teams don't want some sort of lawsuit (dunno how that would work) if they "forced" the player to play despite difficult-to-prove effects of an injury.
It's more along the lines of protecting their investment. Suffer a concussion and it's more likely to happen again. Baseball players have to be able to focus to hit a 90+ mph pitch; if they're suffering from after-effects of a concussion (dizziness, loss of balance), it's unlikely they can play with any degree of effectiveness, particularly at the plate.

Twins acquire Matt Capps from Washington for C Wilson Ramos.
