Re: Minnesota Twins 2010 Season Part III, {sigh}

Twins acquire Matt Capps from Washington for C Wilson Ramos.
Looks like MN doesn't want Rauch closing games anymore.

Edit: I read it was for Ramos "and a minor league pitcher". Must be a **** prospect if they didn't even name him. :p

MLB TV didn't say anything about another prospect, so I don't know.

My fantasy team is in upheaval today.

Rauch loses his closing job
Happ goes to Houston
Tejada goes to San Diego

Love it. Way better than the Toronto Blue Jays rumor from earlier this week.

Yeah.

They filled a need.
Got some potential talent (TOR has some, but they ain't parting with what they got).

Let the MN fans disect this for the next however many years, though. ;) :rolleyes:

I won't waste my time, but if my 33+ years of living in MN is any indication, I'm glad I won't waste my time.

General situation:

MN Fans: We need to trade for (insert situation)!!!!!!!
Trade doesn't happen.
MN Fans: Our team will never make that move! Ugh! * 'em!

MN Fans: We need to trade for (insert solution)!!!!!!
Trade happens, or trade that fills another possibly glaring need happens.
MN Fans: We got ripped off!!!!!! Ugh! * 'em!

Re: Minnesota Twins 2010 Season Part III, {sigh}

The team still needs to get a starting pitcher, but it's good that they locked down the closer role - it's hard to say whether or not Nathan will come back and pitch effectively after the year off / recovery from surgery.

Re: Minnesota Twins 2010 Season Part III, {sigh}

I wouldn't say Capps has been brilliant. He has a lot of saves, but he like Rauch seems to give up a lot of hits.

46.0 IP, 51 H, 14 ER, 5 HR, 9 BB, 38 SO, 2.74 ERA, .274 AVG, 26/30 SV

So while he may be a more natural closer, it will be interesting to see if he is an actual upgrade.

Re: Minnesota Twins 2010 Season Part III, {sigh}

It should simply be an upgrade for the entire bullpen. Now a guy like Mahay or Blackburn will be replaced by Rauch, which is an upgrade and Rauch being replaced by Capps works too. Definitely improves the team, but I agree a front line starter would be nice. Fingers crossed for Brett Myers.

I wouldn't say Capps has been brilliant. He has a lot of saves, but he like Rauch seems to give up a lot of hits.
Rauch: 1.357 WHIP, 10.1 H/9, 2.1 BB/9, 6.3 K/9
Capps: 1.304 WHIP, 10.0 H/9, 1.8 BB/9, 7.4 K/9

Pretty similar numbers, although Capps strikes out one more guy per 9 innings. Plus at 26 yrs of age, he still might get a bit better. In any case, with Duensing going to the starting rotation (and likely staying there), the bullpen needed another reliable arm. With Capps closing and Rauch in a setup role once again, hopefully this will lead to seeing less fat*** Mijares and a lower workload for Guerrier. Another consideration is Rauch is a FA after this season - so this will be one less thing to worry about heading into '11.

Re: Minnesota Twins 2010 Season Part III, {sigh}

Maybe they should send down Denard so he can learn how to not get picked off 1st.

He would never be heard from again!! :eek:

Slama should be sent down, he has shown he is not yet ready for prime time.
