Minnesota Twins 2010 Season Part III, {sigh}

Re: Minnesota Twins 2010 Season Part III, {sigh}

I'm not ready to drop Rauch after one bad game. He hasn't had much chance to pitch lately, so I'll give him the benefit of the doubt for now.
When the hell was the last time he pitched? A week ago?

Re: Minnesota Twins 2010 Season Part III, {sigh}

Does our prospect pool suck that bad that we would have to give up one of our best hitters to bolster the pitching staff?

Re: Minnesota Twins 2010 Season Part III, {sigh}

Trading Morneau short of getting a Hershel Walker like return is beyond dumb.
There's bound to be at least one idiotic GM out there willing to consider it; there's dumb GMs and owners in all the pro sports - MLB isn't an exception.

So trade them Cuddy or Kubel...hell Kubes is a lefty and half the managers in the league have hardons for lefties!

There is no pitcher out there that is available worth giving up an MVP for...none. If you think Oswlat is a fair trade for Morneau (minus getting every top prospect in their system plus the rights to Jeff Bagwell's Steroid needle) then I want the beeper number of your dealer.

Will one person in this bullpen please...PLEASE not suck! I know it is a lot to ask, but try! ;)

Signed,

Every Twins Fan

Jesse Crain. Period. He's been incredible for the past month, month and a half. Halved his ERA. Dropped his WHIP. He looks good.

Oswalt + their top prospect and/or a good reliever would be about right as a starting point for such a trade. Also, Houston wouldn't do it because their 1B - though aging - is a decent player whose numbers haven't fallen off the post-prime cliff yet.

Trading Kubel would be easier than trading Cuddyer (due to much lower salary). However, we wouldn't likely see much coming to MN in exchange for him given his mediocre season thus far. If he has a really good couple weeks, his value might go up enough to generate some interest, but I doubt it.

Interesting stat shown before the game tonight:
Twins runs per game prior to their slump starting in early June: 4.7
Twins runs per game after slump commenced: 4.6

As I've said - offense isn't the problem. Their ERA jumped a full run per game. I think the bullpen would be ok if they improved their starting rotation - that part of the pitching staff was doing well for a couple months before the starters fell apart over the past 6 weeks.

Brisk pace to that game tonight, and what a great day for it considering had that game gone on much longer it would've been delayed for a bit.

Nice to see the Stache throw another CG.

Again though, why do the Twins have to trade someone established and/or one their best hitters to get pitching?
I didn't see the Rangers giving up Young/Hamilton/Vlad to get Lee.
The Yankees aren't giving up Jeter/A-rod for pitching, the Rays likely won't give up Longoria/Crawford to do it, etc etc etc....
Why do we have to give up key parts of our lineup to bolster the pitching staff when it seems other teams do not, especially for pitchers who aren't the caliber of Lee or in other years Sabathia, Halladay etc?
Are our prospects really that bad?

Re: Minnesota Twins 2010 Season Part III, {sigh}

Because none of our prospects are worth a ****. No one seems to want Ramos, we have no starters in the system worth a crap and I seriously doubt we have a great infielder in the system at this point either.

That said, you dont trade the team MVP in the middle of a race. You don't. You especially don't for Roy Oswalt or Rich Harden.

But hey, Bakukin...if Houston called and said they would make the deal for Mauer would you? I mean, offense isn't our problem, we have a few catchers in the system and i would bring in a quality arm. I won't hold my breath waiting for an answer ;)

BTW the only correct answer is yes given the criteria you used to paint yourself into the corner :D

Re: Minnesota Twins 2010 Season Part III, {sigh}

Oswalt is owed a lot of money, and has serious back injury issues over the last few years.

But by all means, trade Morneau for him.

Also, if you actually follow the prospects and the quality of the systems instead of just talking out of your ***, you'd know the Astros system is fairly weak. You're not getting a top prospect back for Morneau even when packaged with Oswalt.

I was worried for a bit that Blackburn might actually lower his ERA today. Of course, then reality set back in. All coming apart in the 6th.

Well, that was interesting. Take the win though.

Watched my first Target Field Twins game for this one. I agree with this assessment.

Jenks is a fail at closer. I've watched him twice now and he's blown one save and barely eked out the other. This guy gets lucky. It's the only way to describe what he does as a "closer."

The Twins showed how it was done today in the ninth. They had to because it wasn't really a good game otherwise.
