Not only that, we would be renting him (probably over paying) until Motzco retires.
He can't be that bad if everyone thinks he's the next Gopher coach!

He is in no way the heir apparent to the Minnesota job. I don’t even think he would be seriously considered if the job opened up right now.
Reading many of these posts about how MSU fans feel about Hastings leaving...it reminds me of how I felt as a Tech fan when Mel Pearson left. I was not pleased. But given time, I realized that we have to appreciate all that he did for the program (in spite of his personality quirks and mistakes). Coaches have to make decisions based on their personal & family circumstances and career aspirations...and I'm sure they are tough decisions. Be thankful you had Hastings and that he built a great program. This turmoil will pass and the program will rebuild based on the foundation he built it upon. P.S. I think Jeff Blashill is a better coach than people realize...I think it might be nice to see him behind the MnSU bench! Go Huskies! And Go Mavs (except when you play Tech)!
I still like and admire Hastings and don't begrudge him for his decision. It's losing half the roster that sucks! When Hastings came in, there wasn't a portal. He kept solid upperclassmen like Hayes, Elbrecht, and McInniss. He had Leitner, his leading scorer from the previous year, and he had a great incoming freshman class with Blueger, Gervais, etc. Now, between graduation, early pro signings, and the portal, we're wiped out. I don't care if Bowman 2.0 is the coach next year, it's going to be rough.
That said, I still think the portal is a good thing. If your college situation isn't working out, you shouldn't have to suffer through it. It's just a triple whammy when you lose your coach, your recruiter, and half your roster.
I understand the portal but I think that it's needs some type of regs. I don't know what but sucks for teams to recruit a guy, build him up to where he becomes good. Their facilities their training staff etc help the player excel and now they jump to a "top" program.
maybe they need to restrict the number of players a team can acquire over the portal. No idea. It's like NLI, I get it but it's use is making college sports unbalanced even more

wondering if there are any mavericks fans out there that collected the trading cards the team did over the past handful of seasons? i am looking for the mike hastings cards from 2014-15...2018-19...and 2021-22 seasons...might any one be able to help me out? thanks!
Nope. I have unopened packs from 16-17 and 17-18, but that's it. Can't help. They're usually out of them when I get there on giveaway nights. This coming year that might not be a problem. I doubt we'll be seeing the 4500-5000 crowds.
Read a new name today in the "Who's the Next Coach?" Derby (I'm scouring Twitter way too much, considering it's the off-season). Thoughts on Jason Herter, longtime UMD assistant, and current Western Michigan Associate Head Coach?
RE the portal... There should be more weight on pick a school you want to stay at--- it used to be that way, or you were faced with sitting out a yr.
I would like to see any player picked up via the portal count double on the schools scholarship allotment. ie bringing a kid in on a full via the portal eats 2 schollies, a guy on a half eats one full etc. Then it's not exactly the Wild West.
