Minnesota State Off Season

Should know a lot more about the future tomorrow.

Don’t panic when you hear where the portal guys are going. They don’t want to be in Mankato and that’s okay. The key is to keep the current recruits, specifically Aaron Pionk.

I like this idea. Wouldn't even have to be a year to year thing either. You could make it a you can take x number of players in x number of years.

I think you should only be able to go into the portal 1x as a hardship or opportunity to increase tuition $. and schools cannot add more portal players than the # of seniors that are graduating.. sounds pretty simple

Rumblings are that Erik Largen joined Knott in the "thanks, but no thanks" camp. Trust the process, I know, but it's kind of frustrating to have basically your entire coaching staff poached and then not be able to lure someone away from Fairbanks.

What could Largen be holding out for? Geez, you guys are offering him a pretty darned good gig. That doesn't bode well for the rest of us...

He's from there and went there. Some have also mentioned maybe some bitterness for the Nanooks being left behind from the new CCHA. Kudos to him if his loyalty runs that deep, I guess.

Steve Miller? I always had the impression he was content being a wandering assistant with the magic touch but Buccigross keeps saying he will be a HC soon.

I’m leaning towards our new coach to be Anthony Noreen from the Tri-City Storm. Dude is a winner at every level he’s coached from USHL, ECHL n team USA. He’s a home run hire in my opinion.

do you think Noreen can recruit on a national level?

Yes, I believe he can with his great track record and he’s very well respected within the USHL, USA hockey. He always wants what’s best for his players on and off the ice. He’s only 40 but has coached for 12-13 years. I truly think he’s a home run hire.

Sticking with the theme of hair-challenged coaches. Nice.

Everybody happy with the hire?

Yes?

I can't say that I know anything about him. He fits the criteria I was looking for personally. USHL coaching success and some familiarity with the college game. Beyond that, I couldn't tell you anything more than what was said in the press release.

Alex Tracy, who he coached in the USHL, posted yesterday that he is staying with the program, so his players presumably really like him.
