Minnesota hosts Denver 3/1 & 3/2

Re: Minnesota hosts Denver 3/1 & 3/2

A big win for DU tonight. Another tomorrow would be huge. I'm guessing Minnesota comes out flying tomorrow night. Hopefully DU will, too.

Re: Minnesota hosts Denver 3/1 & 3/2

My apt, post-game. That angry at our team's "effort" tonight:

Goal and an assist for the Birthday boy, Ty Loney.
Do it again tomorrow!

Re: Minnesota hosts Denver 3/1 & 3/2

Gwoz said in post-game that Brittain will likely be in goal tomorrow.

Re: Minnesota hosts Denver 3/1 & 3/2

The Gophers were not mentally prepared to play this game tonight from the puck drop. A very poor effort in all facets of the game and especially by the top lines tonight. There was basically no sense of urgency to the Gophers game, they couldn't setup in the zone, lost puck battles, key guys gave up uncharacteristic turnovers...an absolute stinker of a performance by the Gophers tonight. The only Gopher line that looked decent tonight was the 3rd line...Serratore, Boyd and Ambroz. Even the PP stunk up Mariucci tonight...and for the first time this season the Gophers were actually outshot 8-2 on their 5 PP opportunities...that's a mind boggling stat from the #2 PP in the nation. Adam Wilcox appeared steady tonight and unfortunately let one in off a skate in front...flukey goal IMO. But overall, a complete crap in the pants by the Gophers tonight.

Credit DU for a good defensive effort and Olkinuora was consistent in net for DU. Heard this stat...Gwoz is now the winningest coach ever against the Gophers...wow.

It goes without saying, the Gophers probably lost any remaining opportunity for the Mac tonight. To show up at this stage of the season with a pitiful effort like this and then get shutout on home ice, the Gophers obviously have some serious soul searching to do if they want to go deep in the playoffs. Unless they can do a complete 180 and learn to string two complete games together, Gopher fans might want to prepare for a letdown in postseason expectations. This team is not good right now and haven't been consistent over the past several weeks. I expect they will come out with a better effort tomorrow night, can't really get much worse than what we saw tonight.

MN had ZERO shots on their first four PPs. ZERO.

And that was probably their best stretch of showing "effort" tonight.

Re: Minnesota hosts Denver 3/1 & 3/2

Congrats DU fans, your team was clearly the better team tonight. Out worked the Gophers, played solid defensively, and even out shot the Gophers on their own power plays in all. Gophers need to dig deep because tomorrow isn't going to be any easier.

This may be your best post ever. Succinct, true, and not a$5holish.
Good work.

Great game to attend from a Pio fan perspective. From my seat on the ice I didn't think the Gopher effort was quite as bad as you Minny fans seem to think it was. I will say, however, that their seeming unwillingness to put the puck on the net was, at times, baffling. A great night for my first time in Mariucci.

It was like we slipped through the wormhole/twilight zone and swapped a lost years team for the current squad..... Absolutely UGLY. Lucia should be ashamed to let that squad on the ice... and Not taking the Timeout to even attempt to right the ship is inexcusable.

Not taking the Timeout to even attempt to right the ship is inexcusable.

Yeah, that's equally difficult to understand. Not trying throw Lucia under the bus here, but when the camera panned over to Lucia on the bench, he looked equally as bored as every other Gopher fan...I don't get the lack of animation from Lucia. If I'm the coach, I'm calling a TO, gettin' in their face and slapping every player in the friggin' helmet. This was by far their worst performance this season and it couldn't have come at a more critical time. Really bad.

Re: Minnesota hosts Denver 3/1 & 3/2

I was thinking, well, something similar anyway.

Dude pitches a shutout. Looks unfazed.

We're gonna go with the other guy. Got a hunch...

I have tried spreading rep to you for the past few days, but apparently I have to spread it to someone else first. What kind of disgusting STD is this rep? Anyways, Minnesota has not been shutout all year. Sure, Canisius (!) held them to 1 goal, but you do not SO the highest scoring team in the country, and then get benched.

Edit: Unless you are Denver, and Gwoz. I suppose being 13-2-1 against the Gophers means Gwoz prolly knows what he's doing.

Sounds like he laid into them pretty good post game. But yeah, a little more animation during the game would have been nice. This team has really looked bad the last 2+ weeks. Unfocus, unispired, out of synch, and sloppy. Really frustrating.
