Minnesota hosts Denver 3/1 & 3/2

Re: Minnesota hosts Denver 3/1 & 3/2

Till tonight when the midget starts the other goalie...
Yeah. Because we only have one good goalie. ;)

If you look back over Gwozdecky's coaching career, he has a long history of rotating goalies, even when one seems to be distinctly sharper than the other. Jussi started every game for several weeks, but the last few weeks, it has seemed like he has worn down a bit. Frankly, I think that tonight's game is a perfect time to give Brittain the nod.

i agree with hansen and matson being missed. there is zero desperation from this years captain, nor from the assistants. like they said on Beyond The Pond today, the 3rd and 4th lines came out last night and got a forecheck going and built a little momentum, and then bjugstad, haula, budish etc came out and completely gave it back to DU. id have rather seen these kids sign to the pros and have brought in less capable kids that will at least give it a solid effort. nothing more annoying than watching a team turn it on right at the end of the game when they realize theyre about to lose. with this team you can tell from the first 10 minutes of the game whether theyre going to win or lose

i think bjugstad, schmidt, haula, and budish are looking at the end of the season not as the beginning of an offseason, but the start of their pro careers

Re: Minnesota hosts Denver 3/1 & 3/2

Suggestion for the gophs: Keep playing like you did last night except take a few more penalties.:D

Dunno if I agree with this. I don't think they are thinking about the pros. The pros for most represent the minor leagues. But I do think Gopher teams throughout the years (and this team is no exception) feel that they are more talented and just don't need to give 110% every night like their opponents do.

Has anyone seen Bjugstads hands lately? They seem to MIA. He can't catch a pass, can't stick handle without losing the puck. Just brutal.

Dunno if I agree with this. Bjugstad still has his moves in my opinion...the guy can still maneuver and pass the puck better than just about anyone. He has just never been relentless in getting to the net...and as opponents sharpen their skills late in the season, this lack of finishing becomes more and more obvious.

The loss last night may have been my fault, that's the first game this year I couldn't either go to or watch at all. (at least I picked a good one to miss) I will be watching tonight, let's hope they can grab 2 much needed pts tonight.

Re: Minnesota hosts Denver 3/1 & 3/2

Night and day. What I saw tonight....wow. Wow.

Still think that second (cough) DU goal was a good one, and there were some calls against MN (and non-calls) that were horrid.

Either way.....happy camper here. I'd rather not see DU in the F5.

I think either Hankinson or Clymer had a great point. DU player (forget whom), being 6'3" and playing the puck at his chest would have put his stick above the crossbar. I think the right call was made. I wouldn't have argued had it been called a good goal though either. Pretty close.

I too thought the 2nd Denver goal was good and the refs continue to miss calls on both sides.
And hope the next place we meet is for the Broadmoor or the other FF

But was it conclusive enough to overturn? That's where I am coming from.

If the refs approached the call like Hankinson or Clymer did, using the player's approx height and where he played it relative to his body, I think it's conclusive enough. Nets are only 4' high. Like I said though, I wouldn't have argued it if the called it a goal.

Re: Minnesota hosts Denver 3/1 & 3/2

And as for facing DU in the future (this season)? Nope. Don't want.

Re: Minnesota hosts Denver 3/1 & 3/2

I don't think the refs determined the outcome of this game - but there were some bad calls. Shepherd's Supervisor/Dad must have been so proud. The biggest thing I look forward to in the NCHC, is never having those guys involved in a DU game again. Now sure, they might have run-ins during tournaments or playoffs at some point in the future. But as far as this recurring week in, week out drama, bovine feces, arguing, blaming all season long and nobody being able to ever change it...... the end is finally in sight for a few schools, Thank God. Will we all love the NCHC refs? Probably not. Will we love ANY ref? Probably not - but the WCHA brand and administration will certainly not be missed in Colorado.

Does Gwoz and his team always whine about EVERY call? Man, I can't remember so much whining, even on obvious calls.

Re: Minnesota hosts Denver 3/1 & 3/2

Stubby people are all like that.

It was actually more the players than Gwoz, but he got into it at times as well. #8 nailed a Gopher with about as clear a cross check as ever was thrown and you woulda thought it was the greatest injustice EVAH for him to get called given his response to the ref.
