Minnesota hosts Denver 3/1 & 3/2

Re: Minnesota hosts Denver 3/1 & 3/2

wes, this isn't me singling you out :) but I disagree. Gophs get at least 3 if they play it right.

Well, that's always the key ain't it? Had they played a bunch of other series right they'd be alone in first right now.

Re: Minnesota hosts Denver 3/1 & 3/2

Denver is 3-8-5 [.343] when scoring three goals or less in a game this season.

Denver is 13-2 [.866] when scoring four or more goals in a game this season.

Minnesota has allowed four or more goals in a home game once this year. That game ended in a 4-4 tie versus North Dakota.

The above data indicate it will be difficult for Denver to score four or more goals in either game versus Minnesota this weekend. The data also show that when Denver scores less than four goals it has won only three of sixteen contests.

Speaking for myself, while I remain hopeful that Denver can author success against the Gophers this weekend, if the Pioneers earn more than one point I will consider that an unexpected dividend. Given Denver's current precarious position holding one of the last favorable spots in the PWR [and that could change pending the outcome of tonight's games], I consider the Pioneers' chance of earning a bid to the NCAA tourney to be no better than fifty-fifty.

Good luck to Denver this weekend against Minnesota.
Indeed. I said a couple of weeks ago that I won't be surprised if DU gets a total of 2 points from North Dakota and Minnesota. They're at 2. Anything against Minnesota is therefore more than I expect. That said, as pessimistic as I am, I am still hopeful. (I am, after all, a Cub fan)

Re: Minnesota hosts Denver 3/1 & 3/2

I'm expecting more goonery from Mayfield, the biggest PIM liability in the WCHA. Thanks in advance...we'll take the PP ops.

OMG a born loser...Bwaaaaahahahaaahahahahahhhaaahahahaa
Well, at least you have figured out that there is a good place for banter between fans of opposing teams. It's a bit more than I expected. :)

You always single me out, so just admit it, nothing new there.:p;) I'm just saying, DU is hard to sweep and 3pts will be hard to come by if they play like they did on Saturday against UMD. Hell, the Gophers didn't play that well on Friday against UMD. They need to come out with a totally new effort this weekend if they want more than a split IMO.

Re: Minnesota hosts Denver 3/1 & 3/2

Our record against Denver has not been stellar over the last 5 years, we have 2 wins 11 losses and a tie if I'm looking at the stats correctly. Not that it really has anything to do with this years Gopher team or how they will perform this weekend at Mariucci, but wow that's bad.

Denver - Please give the Gophers 9 PP's (like you did against UND) on one of the nights this weekend. Thanks :)

And I'll bet 8 of them would be Mayfield and co.'s attempted headhunter paybacks to Rau.

Gophers went 1-9 on the weekend against UMD, not so great. I would hope they can get it clicking against DU, but I'm not super confident in the Gopher PP right now.

Re: Minnesota hosts Denver 3/1 & 3/2

DU game Notes for this weekend. DU has no injuries and will send its 18 eligible skaters on the trip along with its goalies. I would venture a guess that Jussi plays goal on Friday.

I see no reason to believe that DU will be headhunting Rau. Obviously you disagree, but I will be quite surprised if there is anything at all to that.

And the PK has been known to be a pretty strong part of DU's game.

Me too, honestly. Anything aimed at Rau will be from his lippyness, not what happened last year.

Re: Minnesota hosts Denver 3/1 & 3/2

They are also coached, and Gwoz is one of the best. If the games are close, which I suspect they will be, no headhunting will happen. Just my feeling.

To be honest with ya SOH, I've been on enough beastly hockey teams to know that all it takes is a little locker room chatter (code) and Rau might as well tape a target on his friggin' back regardless of what the coach says. But your point is well taken, DU has taken too many penalties this season and I'm sure Gwoz will emphasize not giving the Gophers any PP ops.

Preview from Gophersports

The No.2 Minnesota men's hockey program returns to action this weekend with a two-game Western Collegiate Hockey Association series against No. 10/11 Denver at Mariucci Arena. Friday's series opener will be broadcast on the Big Ten Network and 1500 ESPN while Saturday's regular-season home finale is on FOX Sports North and 1500 ESPN. Both games are slated for 7 p.m. starts. Minnesota (21-6-5 overall, 13-6-5 WCHA) is 92-71-12 all-time against the Pioneers including a 51-27-6 mark against this weekend's visitors on home ice. However, Denver (16-10-5, 11-8-5) has won eight out of the last 10 matchups between the two conference competitors.
