Minnesota Gophers Off Season thread - 2016

Re: Minnesota Gophers Off Season thread - 2016

From Sid Hartman's column today:

"Gopher athletic director Mike Coyle was asked if there was any progress on a new contract for hockey coach Don Lucia, who has only one year left on his deal. 'Nothing new on the hockey coach,' Coyle said. 'I continue to have conversations with Don, and we’ll continue to work our way through that process. But I don’t have any update on our hockey coach. There’s no doubt Don will be here this year. I have a great deal of respect for what he does with our program, 13 championships in 17 years. I think very highly of Don. When I was here before he and I were in Mariucci Arena together, and I’m really appreciative of what Don does and how he represents our program'."

My interpretation is Don is holding out for a new, multi-year term contract that would include a substantial raise, but Coyle is hesitant to commit so the U doesn't get itself locked into another Pitino-like situation. My best guess remains that they will ultimately agree to a two year extension that includes a relatively modest raise.

You take out those three or four years when he was experiencing medical problems and Lucia has done an amazing job for Minnesota.

Example #213 why you're the most level-headed deer-carcass loving Whioux fan around!

Re: Minnesota Gophers Off Season thread - 2016

Does anyone here have a sense about where Mike Szmatula, Northeastern's gift to the Gophers, will fit in to your program? We are looking forward to seeing him on the ice when your guys come to Matthews after Thanksgiving. Oh yeah!

Somewhere in the top two lines from the sounds of it. We are expecting great things from him. Thanks NE.
