Minnesota Gophers Off Season thread - 2016

Re: Minnesota Gophers Off Season thread - 2016

The hate is working its way back up like bile.

But it's sure nice to taste it again.

Re: Minnesota Gophers Off Season thread - 2016

I think he was asking if it's been signed which I don't think has happened yet.
Correct. The last I heard Lucia was quoted as saying, "I haven't signed anything yet"....meaning the 2 year extension that was offered.

Gotcha (and Slappy, too, gotta give credit where credit is due).

Ex-Edina hockey star Tyler Nanne transferring to U

"Nanne was on campus Monday for a physical and plans to file a NCAA transfer waiver in order to be eligible to compete this season. However, a redshirt season might benefit Nanne as he works to get back into shape after missing more than a year of competition."

It might benefit him. Assuming a pretty good bevy of recruits waits until next year, we may want to get him to move on his scholarship now.

Top hockey recruit Rem Pitlick tells Gophers he's ready to join program

In light of his accomplishments at the junior level his earlier position of it being "99 percent sure" he would return to Muskegon for another season was puzzling to me. Glad he had a change of heart and I look forward to seeing him continue his development wearing the Maroon and Gold.

Glad he went with the 1%. Seems like he should be ready to contribute now.

Too lazy to quote now, but glad to hear he sounds like he is in no hurry to move on.

You know...this team might surprise Scooby.

Its got quite a few seniors that will bring stability - stars Kloos, Brodzinski and Bischoff and some with potential to be solid contributors like Reilly and Cammy. Its got one who I think will break out - Bistedt - and an outstanding transfer in Szmatula. Beyond that we've got some depth at D with Glover and Johnson. And we've got a couple of hot shot recruits including Pitlick and a couple of top notch D. The biggest question will be whether last year's big number of so so freshmen up their game or not. Regardless, we should be looking good to win the B1G again. I'm optimistic about making the tournament, but the guys haven't laced them up yet.

Didn't Brodzinski sign with the Sharks?

Re: Minnesota Gophers Off Season thread - 2016

Ouch. Yeah, not sure how I missed that. Bischoff will be the man with Johnson and Glover fighting for second PP.
Glover? Lol what?

Zuhlsdorf will for sure and to a lesser extent Lindgren or even Sadek would be more likely than Glover getting PP time.

Re: Minnesota Gophers Off Season thread - 2016

Didn't see that GPLers had decided who was going to mess up the team this year. Personally I see Johnson first in line for second PP.

Ah no. Mike Reilly didn't QB the PP in his freshman year...Nate Schmidt and Ben Marshall did. Nate Schmidt didn't QB the PP in his freshman year...Cade Fairchild and Aaron Ness did. And so on.

The Gophers do not put freshmen right in as QB on the PP.

Second PP is more likely to have two defenseman and therefore he may not need to QB it. If Glover is on the PP, we have issues.

Blake McLaughlin led the U-17 5 Nations tourney for USA with 6 goals, and tied for first in points with 10. Glad to see he hasn't plateaued yet. Rapids could have another fun team to watch.

Re: Minnesota Gophers Off Season thread - 2016

For those of you 2 people not on GPL, Mike Koster is the latest commitment. Freshman last year at Chaska. 18 goals and 18 assists to lead the team. And he plays Defense. It is getting strange how young these kids are committing.

I hear the staff is working on getting a verbal from this guy next:

Thanks, but based on that pic I'm afraid 'this guy' is an early flight risk.
