Minnesota Girls High School Hockey IV

Re: Minnesota Girls High School Hockey IV

Yes, She started all 3 games and carried the load during the season (.944 S% in at state). They also have a forward that is in 7th grade that had ice time in all 3 games. She had a goal, an assist and a penalty.

Edit, had to check they also have an 8th grader that had 2 goals. They could show up for the next few Februaries

Ne7minder...I know you commented on CC Bowlby from watching her in the section final against Blake. Did you catch the elbow she threw and the little dive into the boards she took in the third period?

And in Class A Breck edges Warroad 3-2 in overtime. Another terrific hockey game.

Didn't get to see as much of that game as I would have liked but both teams have a lot of young talent. Very impressed with Olivia Mobley for Breck. Quinnipiac fans are going to like what she brings to their program in a couple of years.

Re: Minnesota Girls High School Hockey IV

Breck goalie did not play game 1 vs Marshall. I believe she was the Edina peewee AA goalie last year. She would not have sniffed the ice at HS in Edina for at least another couple years. Don’t know if she would/could have gone the Makayla Paul route and played Bantam for a couple years...she could win the A title 6 years in a row. Blake’s goalie played in the championship game the last 4 years (won 3) but lost to Edina in section championship so no shot at #5 this season.

Nice to see a competitive class A game...it’s been a couple years since that has happened. Breck should be great at A for years...

That Edina youth hockey program is deep. From the 7th grade Breck goalie to kids playing at Blake and elsewhere. They have an 8th grade Gopher commit playing D at u15 that would make any team in the state including Shattuck u19.

SIGH, yeah I did. It would be safe to say I am not please to think she will be playing in the WCHA in a couple of years. Maybe she will mature by then.

You recruit up to the LOI. Her mind can change.

No you don't. If you have ethics and some class you back off when she tells you she has chosen/committed to another school. Schools like Dartmouth don't have the LOI so would you keep trying to recruit her even after she tells you she has already committed to them?! That would not be cool at all.

You mean the decommit/recommit infection that plagues the men hasn't crept to the women's side (yet)?

There is a shortage of top talent on the women's side so I would expect the process to be very competitive. If a coach really wanted a person who was only verbally committed I don't see a problem with at least giving them a call to ask what made them chose the other school and keep the lines of communication open. Not a full court press but just a reminder you are seriously interested. It never hurts to ask.

Are we really treating these high school athletes like they are professionals by calling them out in a negative light? If I could offer some advice it would go like this: think twice when you want to comment negatively about a kid and take the high road. If you can't be positive then don't say anything at all. It feels like you may have an ulterior motive here?

As far as the play you describe, from my vantage point the Edina girl didn't "throw an elbow" nor was it intentional. It looked to me to be a hard nosed hockey play! The Edina player and Centennial player were both competing hard. The Centennial girl tried to avoid the rub out and ducked low which put her head in a much more vulnerable position. We all know the game is very fast and sometimes these unfortunate plays happen in the course of a high level game. Thankfully, the Centennial player wasn't injured. I've watched Edina play for many years and they are certainly not a dirty team. They play hard, but they don't play dirty.

The theatrics in the 3rd you mention definitely appeared to me to be some gamemanship. Of course I don't know because I wasn't the one who felt the contact. Nonetheless, this type of competitive advantage is something athletes and especially hockey players have been doing for years. Have you ever watched a faceoff?

Great game last night and great for Minnesota Girls Hockey. It ikeeps getting better and better every year.

You gotta love a first post virtue signalling the "if you can't be positive then don't say anything at all" bit disguised as advice. On the fan forum no less...Nicely done. :D

That actually grew out of an earlier comment where it was note that players on both teams were diving. You may see it as gamesmanship but a lot of people disagree & think it cheapens the whole game. As for contact, there was none in a couple of cases and it was looking like the soccer clowns throwing themselves on the ground screaming in pain from a breeze. I'd just as soon hockey does not get that bad.

I have watched hockey for 60 years so yeah, I have seen a few faceoffs & it is sad you can't see the difference between that and diving.

Does anyone know how many teams Minnesota will be sending to Nationals this year in Boston?
You can check My Hockey Rankings.com website - there’s a small American flag icon next to any team that has qualified for nationals so far. As more State & Regional tournaments conclude more teams will qualify. As of now only the MN Green Giants u14, SSM u16 & u19 have officially qualified. Others may receive at large bids later.
