Re: Minnesota Girls High School Hockey III

You are correct, sir. The difference is who wears the white sweaters and who gets last change.

Only one upset away from another SAH v RAH final but I agree with you, I think Hill.
I think that's been a source of complaint over the years when I believe seeding is done prior to final games on the schedule. Probably the case in 4AA.

I guess the facts are known, but when you read quotes from the coach they are driven home. As part of the story, it should be noted where these players are from. Just curious.

Parochial schools always have something of an edge, or leg up, given their ability to draw from a wider area than public schools. It may not always translate on the ice/court/playing field, but with the right combination of coaching, financial aid, and academic reputation a program can attract the right type and number of players to ensure success for a number of seasons.

While that may be true bear in mind that since the high school league went to a two class system in 2002 private schools have not won even a single Class AA state championship. Before 2002, and starting in 1995 when the first girls tournament was held, in the seven years where there was just one combined class, private schools did not win even one either. They have, however, dominated the Class A tournament, winning eight of twelve "small school" state championships.

Re: Minnesota Girls High School Hockey III

I see EGF has quite a team this year. And what a tough section.

Their win over the Section 8A #1 seed Thief River Falls was definitely an upset. East Grand Forks, MN - which is right across the Red River from UND's home town of Grand Forks, ND - is, as the "new" No. 1 seed in the State Tournament, the favorite to win this year's Class A tournament championship.
