Re: Minnesota Girls High School Hockey III

No. 3AA Hopkins knocked off No. 1 Minnetonka 2-0 last night. Boston University recruit Erin O'Neil made 31 saves to post the shutout, and Gopher recruit Nina Rodgers scored one of their two goals [ http://www.mngirlshockeyhub.com/news_article/show/325421?referrer_id=980516# ].

Hopkins' win was enough to propel them to the No. 1 Class AA ranking in today's Let's Play Hockey, as Minnetonka falls to No. 2:

High School Girls AA
1 HOPKINS
2 Minnetonka
3 Benilde-St. Margaret's

Hopkins returns the favor granted by Wayzata earlier this season.

So...I'll ask opinions of those who've managed to catch a fair amount of games around town...or the state thus far in 2013-2014, who are the most likely...or strongest challengers to the 6AA champion for all the marbles in St. Paul?

Latest KRACH rankings by section are here: http://www.bgoski.com/KRACH_SEC.htm

If I had to bet (guess?) I would say the semifinals in the AA tournament will feature the winner of Section 6, the winner of Section 2 - either Eden Prairie or Edina, Hill-Murray out of Section 4 and a team to be named later...

Regular season play winding down. Hill Murray vs. BSM coming up in a few days. Ponies host the mighty Skippers on 2/5/14 for their final game prior to section play. Good tuneup for the section tournament eh? Mustangs of Mounds View atop the SEC. Some big games in the Lake coming up with the conference championship on the line...looks like Tonka and Hopkins square off again in a few days. Down to the wire.

From results I've seen...games between members of the top ranked Lake Conference have all been very close, tightly contested, intense games. Add BSM to the Wayzata / Minnetonka / Hopkins mix and 6AA should produce some serious barn burners.

Fasten your seat belts!

Oh my! Look who's atop the SEC!

Ponies v. Roseville at Roseville on Friday night. At least part of the conference championship is on the line.

I can't bring myself to be against the Raiders, but . . .

Congratulations to the Ponies on getting things back to more like normal, more like the way things are supposed to be.

I agree; congrats.

I'm surprised that they haven't fiddled with the ratios a bit. I get that goaltender is a very important position, but honoring equal number of goalies and skaters seems titled. They could do something like start with 10 skaters as they do now, and six goalies rather than 10, and reduce the finalists to five and three. The way it is now, it almost makes the goalie a bit lower in terms of the value of the recognition. Just my opinion.

There are some big point totals there. I don't remember seeing such high totals at this stage of the season. Great top end talent coming out of the state.

There are certain regions of the state where the numbers are traditionally inflated a bit because some programs are still relatively new and emerging. It doesn't mean that those top scorers can't play, but neither does it mean that they are superior to some kids on U-18 teams that they appear to be outproducing.

Re: Minnesota Girls High School Hockey III

From Friday night:

Roseville 4, Stillwater 1

Mounds View wins the conference championship (two in a row), Cretin-Derham Hall nabs second, Ponies third, Raiders 4.

Section seedings mimic the conference race except MV is not in section 4, Hill-Murray is. HM gets 1 seed, then C-DH, Stillwater, Roseville.

MSHSL 4AA bracket shows Stillwater with #2 seed, CDH #3 and Roseville #4.

I like the Ponies side of the bracket...but my money's on Hill.

Couple dates at Parade, section 6AA where you're guaranteed to see some great games.

You are correct, sir. The difference is who wears the white sweaters and who gets last change.

Only one upset away from another SAH v RAH final but I agree with you, I think Hill.
