Minnesota at North Dakota - Get Your Riot Gear

Re: Minnesota at North Dakota - Get Your Riot Gear

Great game and win by the Gophers I hope they can play with the same intensity tomorrow night and the rest of the year.

Was Barriball hurt during the 2nd period he didn't play much?

I think it was Hill between periods that said something like it's not an injury but personal health issues.

Re: Minnesota at North Dakota - Get Your Riot Gear

If tomorrow's game matches this one in play / intensity, I'll have no complaints whatsoever. This is exactly what I expect to see in a rivalry matchup and is a large part of why I like college hockey in the first place.

Oh and it's nice to see the Ralph has managed to out-corporate Mariucci with thundersticks and stealing the Blackhawks' goal song. :p

I'll give you the thundersticks, but the goal song is by player request. Last season, after playing in Chicago over the holidays, the players caught a Blackhawks game. They loved the song and requested it be played after Sioux goals.

I do enjoy Gopher fans belittling their own team by saying that they are so bad that the only way that North Dakota could lose would be to choke, but the Gophers won this game. The Sioux didn't choke it away.

#2 in the country doesn't lose to this kind of team at home unless one of two things happens:

1. They get a big head and think all they have to do is show up to win.
2. They choke.

I've lived in Minnesota my entire life so I know the two options. You don't think #2 is the right answer, well then the Sioux were looking at the Gophers as easy pickens.

We must have watched a different game. The Sioux played very well. The Gophers just played slightly better. Again, if you want to continue to trash your team, I'll let you, but I just saw a completely different game than you.

And how many times have we all said that the Gophers have the raw talent but they don't have the (insert excuse)? Tonight, maybe that talent was realized, if only for a game. Just sayin'.

3. We aren't as bad as many think and maybe finally played to our potential.

Re: Minnesota at North Dakota - Get Your Riot Gear

I am going to head on over to Sioux Sports, and remind all the idiot sue fans that jumping into the Red River at this time of year will lead to injury. I hope to convince them to jump off the bridge head first.

Re: Minnesota at North Dakota - Get Your Riot Gear

I have never seen someone hate their own team more than Scooby. He hates all of his supposed teams. The Gophers played very well tonight and earned the win. But Scooby can't think that way, because of all his teams suck. So obviously the Sioux choked.

Re: Minnesota at North Dakota - Get Your Riot Gear

I am in shock. Tonight the Gophers best player was between the pipes and he deserved the first star. At least the Gophers showed and played with some heart tonight. I still don't understand the defensive lapses they still need to stop and don't even get me started on the face offs. UGH! IMO, it was the best played Gopher game of the year and it made for an enjoyable game to watch.

Glad to see the Gophs pull one out...too bad the refs had to get in the way for whole second period. Home ice advantage was pretty **** obvious tonight.

Maybe the Gophers are just a bunch of goons. And how about that, it worked out for them tonight.

Re: Minnesota at North Dakota - Get Your Riot Gear

Oh, so you are protecting the WCHA refs again.

When they do an OK job, sure. I'm not going to blame the refs for a game UND loses. I know you'll just make up some crap about how I do though, so go ahead.

 The only issue I had with the reffing was the Gophers coming out of the scrum at the end of the second a man down, and I appear to be in the minority on that one. The rest of those penalties in the 2nd were as legit as can be.

Gophers played well tonight. Obviously not perfect defensively, but as much as I could have possibly hoped for. Bottom line, they matched UND on special teams, were the tougher team in front of the nets, and had the better goaltender.

If they can come out tomorrow and be that sharp and that intense, and do a better job of staying out of the box, they have a shot of heading back to MPLS with 3 pts. That would be a phenomenal weekend for this team.

Re: Minnesota at North Dakota - Get Your Riot Gear

UND:
Pros - Hit everything that moved and never stopped skating/quit
Cons - Hit everything that moved and not the brightest bulbs on the planet

UM:
Pros - Played like a team and created scoring chances more than they have all season
Cons - Played not to lose after the 2 goal lead and could not get the friggin puck out of their own end

Side note: One play that summarizes Goon/Halo hockey perfectly - Genoway takes Dell's helmet off and Malone tackles a Gophers player to the ice.

Also, before the game started the boys asked me who the Gophers were playing:

Me: The Fighting Sioux
Gus (8): The Fighting Soup? That sounds easy.
Me: No, the Fighting Sioux
Jace (6): Sue? That's a girl's name

true story

Re: Minnesota at North Dakota - Get Your Riot Gear

I am an SCSU fan, but this was the best game I have seen this season. This might be what the Gophers need to turn the season around and make it to the NCAA's.

Is it just me or did the video FSN showed of the 2nd intermission scrum make it look like Genoway basically shoved one of the Gophers and then skated away and let his team fight?
