Minnesota at North Dakota - Get Your Riot Gear

Re: Minnesota at North Dakota - Get Your Riot Gear

To the Gopher fans complaining about the Sioux coming out of the scrum with a powerplay, you can blame Jacob Cepis. He was given a Slashing penalty for holding his stick to MacWilliam's neck for a solid 10 seconds or so. At one point in the video you can see someone on the Sioux bench (trainer?) reach for the stick trying to pull it away from MacWilliam's neck and Cepis refuses to let go.

I'm fine with the Gophers standing up for themselves, but holding a stick to your opponent's neck and vigorously pulling back is a bit excessive. He's lucky he didn't injure him.

Then MacWilliam should have been kicked out for leaving the bench (after him, yes, both teams were leaving the bench, but he was first). That was B.S.

At worst, the teams should have been even-up on penalties.

And I'm in the camp that says that the non-call on the Wehrs hit isn't a big deal.

Sure, I stabbed that guy. But Joe Blow over here stabbed a guy first! Arrest him, not me!

Re: Minnesota at North Dakota - Get Your Riot Gear

Dirty: the Gophers retaliated. Hence me saying even up, at worst. UND getting the PP? Ridiculous.

So the Gophers retaliated on what you yourself said was a clean hit and you're suprised that UND got a powerplay?

The hit on Wehrs can be debated, some say boarding some say it was legal. But what's not debatable is the PP that the Sue got after the scrum it should have been even up to say otherwise is foolish.

Yes. MacW should have been kicked out of the game for leaving the bench, and honestly, everything should have been even up. No PP for either team. We see that all the time after scrums like that.

I'm just using Brent's own argument. Don't blame me that it's flawed.

That's obviously a college hockey version of a rear naked choke. Jacob Cepis is a UFC fan and so am I, so I'm ok with it.:D

I'm sorry, that's only a clean hit in mutant league hockey. Last time I checked there was no blackholes on the engelsted arena ice.

Thank you for your opinion. But take it up with Brent, not me.

Re: Minnesota at North Dakota - Get Your Riot Gear

He (Cepis) stood up for a teammate, because the official didn't do his job. .
If I am getting this right, we are to applaud the Gopher's player for holding a carbon fiber stick against a player's throat?

Yeah, if it was wood he could have actually hurt him. you know, slivers are dangerous.

Only for about 10 seconds, is that too much to ask?

Re: Minnesota at North Dakota - Get Your Riot Gear

you would think one of these years wehrs would learn to keep his head up... he was in 2 out of the 4 big hit highlights show on the jumbo last night

Re: Minnesota at North Dakota - Get Your Riot Gear

Now that the Gopher Freshamen have learned how to beat the thug sue at their own game, maybe we will see a very chippy game tonight. Hopefully hextall can double his output, and get called for 6 penalties. and, if the refs were to read this:

Boarding
SECTION 3. A player shall not body check, cross-check, elbow, charge or
trip an opponent from the front or side in such a manner that causes the
opponent to be thrown violently into the boards (see 6-23).

it looked more violent then it was. Since you're a ref, I'm sure you have a different take on it.

Yes. MacW should have been kicked out of the game for leaving the bench, and honestly, everything should have been even up. No PP for either team. We see that all the time after scrums like that.

show me a video where he jumps off the bench. And again, every player left the bench at that point, so who cares?

Cepis is lucky that MacW didn't smoke his *** with an elbow.

Re: Minnesota at North Dakota - Get Your Riot Gear

If the NCAA wants to be serious about preventing head injuries, Malone will be sitting out tonight's game. If they want to send a message they'll tack on an additional game for it happening after the horn. Sheppard needs to be suspended as well, the big ice brawl could have been prevented if the officials immediately kicked Malone out of the game and added the five minute major. That was the right call, throwing a guy viciously head first into the boards after the horn had sounded is not only boarding, but roughing and clearly fits the conditions for escalating consequences. This is really isn't disputable, unless you want to let these two teams go free range assault against each other. If that's the case then I'm all for Sachetti going NHL 2K tomahawk on Kristo, Frattin giving Jacob Cepis a back breaker, or Helgeson/Genoway choke slamming anyone that goes near the net.

But it didn't occur after the horn. Take a look at the time in the screencap when initial contact was made. And if you watch the video, the horn sounds AFTER Wehrs is down on the ice.

Initial contact - 00.6 seconds on the clock

Honestly, the ref had a pretty good view of the hit.
