Maine - the Golfing Season

Re: Maine - the Golfing Season

It will and has always come down to the good teams win with solid goaltending. Shore is a big lost along with Parker, that said no one feels sorry for Maine...this is when someone within, either a upper classmen or incoming takes the step forward...maybe a Merchant/Swavely/Leidermark/Beattie/but someone to fill the void till Shore's back and most likely a possible lost season for Parker.

Just a note that no one got excited when Flynn a walkon and Abbott arrived on campus for the first time. Also last year when Nyquist left everyone thought it was the end of the world.......I think that there will be players that will step it up this year......Beattie, Shemansky, Rutt, Pryor, O'Conner

Re: Maine - the Golfing Season

what is up with all of the health-relataed disclosures?
under the HIPPA and FERPA (I think) laws, the schools cannot disclose private health-related information.
I hear big government has become aware of this very serious offense and will be knocking on Maine's door any day now. Be sure to leave your name and address so they can express a heart felt thank you to the whistle blower.

I could not agree more with this post. Even though Parker is hurt I think the sophomore class will still have an impact this year. It would be nice to get an update on how Leen is doing.

Re: Maine - the Golfing Season

Not sure what I have to do with the post you just quoted, but I'm flattered. I really am.

What reason would the players have for not reporting injuries to their medical/training staff or their coach? Seems entirely counterproductive not to.

Re: Maine - the Golfing Season

whoever has FiveHole's personal email address ought to let him know that J.D. hacked into his account.

I never said that there was a breach, I wondered why the students themselves reported the injuries and why.

but thanks. it just isn't uscho without someone taking stuff completely out of context
Ooops, my bad. I thought you said...

The disclosures are unfortunate. Without them this thread would be far more interesting with speculation of what Tmmay had done with these players. :p

Is Whitedead gone yet?

Oh, screw that. Union gave Rick Bennett a contract extension for going one and done in the NCAA's, and didn't Lowell give therir coach an extension too?

Where's TIMMAY's? He deserves it.

This will be an interesting year. Can sully be an elite goalie and steal games, and has he improved puck handling ?

D should be stronger defensively, and if
Pryor show the offensive promise that was supposed to be part of his game, we could be ok, and bigger with Hutton

Beattie needs to show that he wants to keep playing after this year, Diamond will be challenged by teams being able to focus on him without Flynn and Abbott ....Shore seems like the real deal, can Anthoine show leadership, ...Parker out hurts, but that is the nature of the game. They wasted a spot on Norman and Liedermark. And now have to live with that. Thought?

I think if Tim would not micromanage what each player does when he gets the puck and just lets the players use their own skills, Anthoine might prove that he is one of Maine's best stick handlers, ever. I saw some magic in his hands in practices and I saw a couple sparks of brilliance in games, but nothing like Teddy did in games... so I am note sure Anthoine has to poise to do it under pressure.

Anthoine has 100 times the hands of Abbott, but not a lot more speed, if any more at all.

Sullivan will have to be solid for Maine to have a chance this season, steal a game is something that I don't see in him...Diamond/Anthoine will do their jobs in the the tough areas/front of the net...they will be needed to get the tough goals...Beattie has dissapointed me alot,he needs to have a good season or he'll go down as a kid that should have been better but always came up short...they'll need him to score from the faceoff dots...Shore has the hype/but now with Mono, could be a real setback and we may not see the full talent level he's capable of bringing to the Maine lineup...he needs to be healthy before he even thinks about playing...don't know much about Norman to comment, and Leidermark has never been more then PKer and a Checking 4th liner,I must admit I expected more last year and was hopeful he would have upped it for his Senior year...the D can be solid but not at a elite level, simply put their not allowed to play the tough/hard style under TW,so they are hand-cuffed to a point that a penalty here or there sends them(not all)to the stands for a game or more...so they play tenative...the Sophmore Class needs to continue to improve/they did a overall good job last season, now if they can get a few more goals from them....it still will come down to Goaltending and how they take care of their own end on defense...I expect a drop in scoring/thats why they'll need scoring from everyone...not just 2/3 players...it could very well be a long season for Maine...but then thats hockey and we'll see when they actually play the game.

Re: Maine - the Golfing Season

My thoughts on this year's team - http://bit.ly/QjMbZt

Not expecting Maine to have an offensive powerhouse. I think any improvements they make will be in playing a grittier style.

That's a nice preview and think you have it right for the most part. I do wonder though, why are you so high on Kyle Williams over Merchant or Riley? Is it inside info or your own opinion based on their track record before Maine?

I've seen Williams play a few times live and loved what a solid defensive presence he was. Not necessarily down on Merchant or Riley though. It's possible Timmay could pull the F/D switcheroo with Riley and he could have a down season. Williams will have to earn the playing time, but if he does he'll surprise. I'm quite excited to see how the freshman will fit into the lineup.

Re: Maine - the Golfing Season

My sister and I had a great time visiting your beautiful state. A big thank you to UncleRay who joined us for drinks in Portland last Wednesday. It was nice to see Orono and walk through the campus... Very beautiful. Neither of us had seen pictures of Alfond, so it was surprising to see what it looked like. A lot smaller than we expected. Quite the design with the rink built into th ground and the roof.

The weather on MDI was perfect. I slept in my hammock right on the edge of Somes Sound the first night. Beautiful stars at night and incredible waking up next to the water. Great hiking up the west face of Cadillac Mtn. Walking around Bar Horbor was nice too. We took the time to drive to Schoodic Point and are very glad we did. That was the Maine coast we were looking for. Camden was as beautiful as we were hoping! It was great to have a couple beers on the waterfront, camp in the park and then hike the Mt Battie trail in the morning. The drive back down the coast provided some amazing views, as well.

Overall, a great trip and I'm very glad I was able to make it. Thanks to everyone who sent me messages with suggestions on places to go!

This is Maine we're talking about. Are we content expecting less? Is one and done in the NCAA's good enough for us, because if it is, I guess I'll just become a friggin U-*** Lowell fan.

But it's tough to recruit at Maine.

Re: Maine - the Golfing Season

But it's tough to recruit at Maine.

If you are winning it is a lot easier................also you have to invest scholarship money wisely. I noticed more players/recruits coming in from the USHL lately vs Ontario Juniors or BCHL..............
Surprised Maine having a hard time recruiting in Quebec..............

Schoodic is the nicest part of Acadia for me. Thank god it is kind of undiscovered, its so nice to be able to go to a place that beautiful and it not be crowded.
