Maine - the Golfing Season

Re: Maine - the Golfing Season

KnowItAll}Anthoine has 100 times the hands of Abbott said:
Come on; are you serious, KIA?

All Abbott had was hands, and a gift for patience... I saw it in very limited ice-time when he was a Freshman, FCS, and he kept on doing it while becoming a rare (and legitimate) Hobey candidate from Maine.

Anthoine is a very different player. He crashes the net and stuffs-in rebounds (and I like that), but he doesn't have anywhere near the native skills that Abbott had. Not even close.

you can believe that if you want to.
I have seen Anthoine put on clinics IN PRACTICE, stick handling in a phone booth kind of clinics
never seen him do it in a game, but I am telling ya... if you remember the time Teddy stick handled at Merrimack, standing still on a face off dot, with 3 warriors trying to get the puck from him... you might be able to imaging what Anthoine is capable of.

In games, as I said, I have only seen brief glimpses of that kind of skill, but honestly, he might have the third best hands of a black bear, ever

I realize that practice and games are completely different.
Moore had a shot that rivaled Rodrigue, but I NEVER saw Greg line up a giant slapper in a game and I think I saw almost every one of Greg's games.

if you get a chance.. watch ANthoine in practice

abbott had an extremely accurate shot, and a great ability to shoot wide and put it where Shemansky could tip it in.
he had a toe drag that could not fool a bona fide D1 Dman, although
he ONCE undressed a great D maine, at Orono against UND, behind the net... (the little all american, number 5)
he never "stick handled in a phone booth"... that is what i am talking about.

Re: Maine - the Golfing Season

We did stop at Pats for lunch. It was deliciously college pizza.

I agree about Schoodic. There were only a couple other cars so we didn't have to deal with any people.
I told you that you've had better pizza. But it's the whole experience. Were you disappointed you listened? Glad you made it to Schoodic, it is a truly special place.

And, yes, BearNecessity, we run a travel log here. In addition to all kinds of other superfluous topics. It's called being a part of the college hockey community. Join it, there are some interesting characters out there that wear other colors.

First game 2 weeks from tonight, can't wait to see them play. Not sure how good or bad Quinnipiac is?. I doubt Maine has much offense but we'll see

Re: Maine - the Golfing Season

saw many of the hockey players at the football game today and i'm pretty sure I saw hutton with a solid gimp going. looked to be a right leg injury, couldn't tell if it was hip, knee, or foot.

Never seen a Maine practice, and I probably never will... Practice is irrelevant, unless it pays off when the games count.

I'd love to see Anthoine produce like Abbott did, but I'm betting the farm that he won't. (Maybe two farms, come to think of it.)

Re: Maine - the Golfing Season

Not sure but going from Maine High school hockey to D1 is quite a jump

Yeah, it's a huge leap without a doubt, especially if you land at a BU. I wonder if he completely passed under Maine's radar, or what.
