Maine - the Golfing Season

Re: Maine - the Golfing Season

Just wanted to find out if the fundraiser baseball game with Maine's finest was a success ?

Somes Sound is special as is Schoodic. I hate driving thru Camden:) but its a cool place. Hope you went Pats? in orono

We did stop at Pats for lunch. It was deliciously college pizza.

I agree about Schoodic. There were only a couple other cars so we didn't have to deal with any people.

Re: Maine - the Golfing Season

So we have been brought to this...No longer do we speculate on the incoming frosh, or which Sr will have a breakout year...we are now doing travelogues.....Walshie must be spinning in his grave:)

Well I'll get it started some...any UPDATED News on Devin Shore's condition(Mono)..? And anyone out there think or hope that incoming Netminder Matt Morris turns some heads before the start of the season..? And if the season started now/with illness and injurys aside where would you peg Maine finishing in Hockey East Regular Season play..?

Re: Maine - the Golfing Season

Maine won't win Hockey East, so put them wherever you want. They aren't even close to BC so they're playing for 2nd or worse. It all depends on goaltending and D, I don't see much offense. If Sully improves the same amount as he did between has Fresh and Soph years Maine might be pretty good. The other goalies, who knows until I see them play.

I disagree with this. I think 1-6 will be pretty wide open in hockey east. I'm not sold on BC being great this year, it's going to be very tough replacing some of the guys they lost from last year's team. I picked Maine third and feel pretty good about them getting home ice for the HEA playoffs.

BC reloads every year, they lost great talent and I have no doubt they will bring great talent back in. Just look at Johnny Gaudreau, wasn't supposed to go there, comes in and is one of the best players in HE as a freshman. 2 thru 6 may be wide open but #1 is BC until Jerry retires

They have had some big losses on D,,,and that can be a tougher place for a Frosh to come in an make a difference....Gibbons , Carey and Whitney are aklso real losses up fron

Still ahead of pack, but not invincible....

We'll see. I'm not inclined to agree or disagree, every team is different. I just wonder if you were concerned with them replacing Jimmy Hayes, Cam Atkinson, Joe Whitney, Brian Gibbons, and John Muse going into last season. You'll probably see a "dropoff" from October - December but after that...

Gibbons and the older Whitney were in the pros even last year. Last game was when they got Sanduskied by Colorado College.

But really it's not about the players, it's about York. He's got about a 70% success rate for getting to the FF once he got the program up and running. Then again, Timmay is like 40%.

As far as reloading goes I look at Jerry like I did Shawn, he was going bring in guys he can fit into a system and by the end of the year, they were going to be a formidable foe. Jerry does it every year

That is an extremely valid point and I thought they would struggle. On the flip side though, doesn't that tell you how special Kreider, Dumolin, Cross, Almeida, etc were to be so successful after all of the losses BC suffered?

To walrus' point, I think BC's classes of 2012 and 2013 were pretty special, I'm not so sure about three classes after it though. There is no doubt Gaudreau and Arnold are good as will Matheson most likely but I'm not blown away with the rest of them. BC has a great class coming in next year so it's not a downward spiral or anything but is a little interesting.

Do you think BU will be the team to beat this year?

#1 and #2 will be either UMass-Lowell and BC...and then the rest is up in the air.

Steven Whitney and Pat Mullane are very good players as well and both put up @ 40 points last year. I also think Kevin Hayes and Destry Straight are both going to take that next step and become the high scoring, impact forwards they were expected to be when they were recruited. The D will be fine as Matheson should step right in and be fine, while the other 2 Frosh that play may take a few weeks to get acclimated. Obviously rock solid in net. If anything, I think the one year looking out into the future where BC could fall back a bit would be next year as they lose Alber, Wey, Whitney, Mullane and possibly Gaudreau, Arnold, Hayes or Matheson.

Re: Maine - the Golfing Season

Didn't know this was a BC thread? The guys are excited for the upcoming year and feel that though the team is different, there is a lot of talent and should be quite good. Our Black Bears that is.

That's great news. Any surprises we should expect as far as guys making big jumps from last year?
