Maine - the Golfing Season

Re: Maine - the Golfing Season

medically speaking there are a bunch of different kinds of foot fractures. one of the worst is called a lisfranc fracture (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lisfranc_injury) and would require a lot of time off. who knows what kind parker has but that's definitely too bad. i figure shore will be OK eventually and he'll be ready to go come conference play (which hurts us for OOC play, but really i think we all know this is a rebuilding year). Lomberg, who to be honest I think will be a cross between shemansky and diamond (connor leen-ish?), will be ready in time for play in november, no? so really we lose parker who would have been a dynamite 3rd liner and PK guy.

Parker injury hurts, but they will have to deal with it like other teams do...as far as Shore and the Mono part...what would be a rough estimate in his recovery time,6-8 weeks form now or from the 1st game on October 6th..? Or longer..?

What do you think the forward lineup and defensive pairing will look like this year?
Who will be putting the puck into the net?

Re: Maine - the Golfing Season

what is up with all of the health-relataed disclosures?
under the HIPPA and FERPA (I think) laws, the schools cannot disclose private health-related information.

why would Shore have allowed his mono diagnosis to be released to the press? Just so that the scouts know why he is not playing? (I bet they could have been told without a press release)

Like.............upper or lower body injuries ??

if you read the laws, you will see that the school is not allowed to disclose private medical information.
I ASSUME that if the player discloses it first, then the U is allowed to comment on it... but the original disclosure cannot be made by anyone who is under the legal gag order.

that said.. why did I get to read about the mono diagnosis? Did Shore's agent want that info disclosed?
ooops family advisor

He put it on his twitter account awhile ago.

Re: Maine - the Golfing Season

god I hope Jackie had a team manager who was as willing to thrown HIM under the bus as maine did, back in the day

Team manager, how about Rick Cromley and Jack Parker? I'll bet Walshie is sporting an ear to ear smirk up there.

Re: Maine - the Golfing Season

After reading the BDN article on injuries, illness etc, I am curious as to what a NON Hockey related injury actually is...and what caused it...foot and ankle surgery tells me that this was not a simple injury....I kno HIPPA limits, but anyone have the scoop...somebody trip over a dog or a case of beer?

Re: Maine - the Golfing Season

Incoming Maine freshman forward Will Merchant has been added to the CCM/USA All-American Prospects Game, http://www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=641363

Merchant is quoted saying, in reference to UMaine:

"They're a really fast team that likes to play physical," Merchant told SunThisweek.com. "I like to do that too, so I think it's a good fit for me. I've got to keep working on my skating. I've been working out four or five times a week this summer."

Wasn't that "HOW" Maine Hockey use to play before the DEAD ERA arrived(Whitehead)..? But for what its worth,I'm looking forward to see Merchant play this season...

We had a mononucleosis outbreak in my HS back in the Stone Age.

I caught it, and spent only one day in bed before soldiering on, but another kid in my class reportedly died from it... It hits different people in strikingly different ways. No one seems to succumb to the virus anymore, but recovery-times are still widely variable.

I was hopeful that Parker would have a breakout year, because I think he might have the tools to put the biscuit in the basket. Likewise, I think that Maine will need a Devon Shore (or somebody else out of the Blue) to contribute significantly in 2012, because I just don't see much potential firepower on paper on this roster, otherwise.

I'm not a big Timmy fan, but he showed us a little flexibility in his approach last year. IMO, he'll have to pull out all the stops to keep Maine in the mix in the coming one. Our only hope is rock-solid D and 'tending, and that is a bit of a stretch at this juncture.

It will and has always come down to the good teams win with solid goaltending. Shore is a big lost along with Parker, that said no one feels sorry for Maine...this is when someone within, either a upper classmen or incoming takes the step forward...maybe a Merchant/Swavely/Leidermark/Beattie/but someone to fill the void till Shore's back and most likely a possible lost season for Parker.
