Maine Recruit Updates: The Search for Spock

Re: Maine Recruit Updates: The Search for Spock

It is also a game of percentages, percentages that these coaches obsess with and pour over 24/7. the percentages say that if you get high end kids from USHL, and the highst/elite kids from BCHL, you will have success. Percentages say if you go hard on EJ, you wont. Of course there are exceptions but by no means is it the norm, nor will it ever be. Have watched about 25 USHL games this year and about 10 EJ games. It is night and day and is where maine needs to go to get back in shape.

Re: Maine Recruit Updates: The Search for Spock

How many players from the USHL are their in HE, how many from the EJ?

Re: Maine Recruit Updates: The Search for Spock

You have to also remember one very important fact
The vast majority of ej kids dream about hockey east from day one
You can't say the same for USHL as we have a number of kids from that region
Zero players from EJ in WCHA and CCHA, hundruds from USHL

Go to www.ushl.com and click on college committments
Another 192 already this year
Look how many to minn, notre dame, UND, Michn CC, etc
If you land those kids, you are in the game. None of these schools are holding their breath for EJ, outside the exception

Y minn, notre dame, UND, Michn CC, etc

Other than UND which one of those schools is in the tourney as of right now?

Re: Maine Recruit Updates: The Search for Spock

Western Michigan has 12 kids from the USHL and they suck.
These are the top 10 in country, loaded with USHL... Guess how many EJ???
lower, lower, lower, lower... Your getting there

1 Miami (37) 16-4-6 984 2
2 Wisconsin ( 8) 14-6-4 938 3
3 Denver ( 5) 14-6-4 917 1
4 North Dakota 13-8-5 748 5
5 St. Cloud State 16-7-3 679 12
6 Yale 11-5-3 637 6
7 Bemidji State 17-5-2 633 14
8 Cornell 10-5-3 631 9
9 Minnesota-Duluth

Miami and Wisconsin have 15 each from USHL, whats your point??

Its all about the kid, not the league. Kids adapt very quickly to the level of competition they are thrown into. Give me a kid with skill and heart and I cud give a chit what league he came from.....geeezus.

Re: Maine Recruit Updates: The Search for Spock

agreed, but the point is the best players go the best leagues

USHL

Go west Maine, go WEST!!!

Re: Maine Recruit Updates: The Search for Spock

Truth hurts

So, Hokydad, when are you going to get hired for your own division I program if you have all the answers?

Probably never, because you are a ****ing idiot.

Re: Maine Recruit Updates: The Search for Spock

Come on...geez...nobody said you win with just a certain player from a certain area....you match up with as best of a player as you can get....right now you have to say that several of the Jr. Monarchs will make a good foundation to what Maine is putting together....never make it...come on....there's magic everwhere's...put the right team/players together and IF you get the right Coaching and some puck luck....well anything can happen.....but don't say never or can't....you never know in the game of Hockey....thats why they play it on the ice and not on the key-boards......

Absolutely. Throw in an outstanding goal tender and you have a winner. It's not always about outstanding players from outstanding leagues as you described.

Take a look at Notre Dame's roster. They have all the players you claim Maine should have. Their behind Maine in the pairwise right now.

What about last year, or the year before?. Maine is getting what they are getting, how do we know if Maine is looking at USHL kids or not, maybe he can't get any to come. I'd rather have kids that want to be at Maine

I'm sure you're right, Maine is recruiting USHL players, but they don't want to come for whatever reasons. The recruiting process is very difficult on many fronts. Academics, character, talent, personality and willingness to play in the Northeast corner of the country are all issues facing players and recruiters.

Re: Maine Recruit Updates: The Search for Spock

Here's a list of NH Jr. Monarchs that have been to the Frozen Four:

Joe Pearce, Boston College: 2004, 2006
Joe Adams, Boston College: 2006, 2007, 2008

Yea, these two were real key cogs in the BC machine. Pearce basically only played while Schneider was in the WJC and Joe Adams played even less.

I'd rather have kids that want to be at Maine

I like that line, wally. True for everyone, without a doubt. And pretty important!

I don't know a dam thing about the Juniors, but I DO know that the Monarch guys are panning out for Maine. That's all I need to know, right now.

I just watched MSU beat Michigan for the 3rd time in a row.I watch Minnesota every weekend, and they find a way to lose at least half the time.Notre Dame is mediocre, and so is North Dakota,CC,etc...Maybe these teams are recruiting from an "elite" league, but it hasn't shown up on the ice.

I'd just as soon see Maine keep the Corkum pipeline open, while beating the bushes in the prairie provinces for another overlooked guy like Dustin Penner.

College hockey is wide-open right now,and it's kinda fun to see that.

Your so right on that point....it's a great game...we tend to get frustrated at times...but in the long run we all have a passion for it...!
