Re: Maine Recruit Updates: The Search for Spock

Better late than never,

Connor Leen was named EJHL Rookie of the Week back on 10/19

http://www.jerseyhitmen.net/joomla/...by-ejhl&catid=6:eastern-junior-news&Itemid=16

I get the impression that while he is listed as 2011 or 2012...he will be coming our way next year as a leader of that class.

Should be a very strong class defensively, with a few wildcards *who knows what we'll get* at forward in Brown and Higgins. Leen should develop into our biggest sure thing out of those guys.

Re: Maine Recruit Updates: The Search for Spock

Ryan Lomberg (The Hill Prep) - N/A

fwiw, the hill prep has been just taking people apart so far this season. record so far is 13-1 and they are outscoring their opponents 58-6. competition they have been facing are u-18 teams and teams like the jr. flyers (u-18 midget aaa), jr. bobcats(u-18 midget aaa), rothesay netherwood school, etc. one of the few close games was a 2-1 win over the compuware u-18 team... not sure how much to take away as it appears that they have been rarely tested...

Stuart Higgins (Youngstown/USHL) - 6 GP, 2-1-3 (injured?)

looks like he missed a couple of games... team has played ten but he has only played in eight... could be injury, or he could have been sat down for a couple. through 8 games he has the 2-1-3 line that you referenced, but is also a -6 already. last season through 56 games he was a -27 so he is well ahead of that pace...

Re: Maine Recruit Updates: The Search for Spock

FYI - From the Heisenberg site, another recruit for 2013 or 2014.
Ryan Cloonan-LC (2013 or 2014) Boston Advantage Midget 5'6 138, 7-25-95

Re: Maine Recruit Updates: The Search for Spock

Literally. :D

no kiddin'. i remember when i was 5'6". i was 160lbs (as a freshman)... and filled out to 6'0" 185 by my sophomore year... looks like they are definitely trying to live in that bc mold of smaller, quicker forwards... my only concern is (and hopefully i am proven somewhat wrong again) is the same concern i had with the large number of jr monarch guys... and that is how many guys from one team can really be considered elite prospects...

I wonder why they don't do team stats?

The Monarchs have had tremendous talent recently........I hope that we keep that pipeline!

Regarding Cloonan.........sounds like he visited during the NoDak weekend.

Re: Maine Recruit Updates: The Search for Spock

I'm a little concerned about the lack of Canadian recruits recently. I remember the very good teams of the late 90s and early 2000s were filled with a ton of great Canadians like Larose, Guite, Cullen, Michaud, Levelielle, etc. with some Europeans and Americans sprinkled in there.

I've always liked Maine, but growing up and playing hockey in Massachusetts through high school not too long ago, I'll tell you no one dreamed of playing anywhere besides BU or BC with a few exceptions. I'm not saying Whitehead can't get a few impact players from Mass, but I think more international players are needed.

They've tried but they all end up playing in Juniors.

I'll concur here

though Maine is doing a much better job of bringing in impact players from within country walls... A lot of them are from ny and nj, or the overlooked for one reason or another mass kids. I just don't see consistency from this bed.

Out of our top 6 impact forwards...

House, Nyquist and Abbott are international. There's your top line.

Flynn was a late blooming oops, but good for us find!
How Dee didn't end up in the wcha makes me wonder.
And we're not going to consistantly get Joey Diamonds out of NY.

Blooming talent for the coming years...
Anthoine is a Maine kid...
Beattie is a rare kid from a very neutral market...

We know we can't rely on Maine to pump out Greg Moores like candy, and even if they do, even some of them will take the Boston bait (see Dumoulin and Billett)

even on d...

I bet if anyone could have guessed his potential, Dimmen would have ended up recruited by cc or du.
O'Neill strikes me as a by-design rebel to the MA programs. Not always going to rely on those catches.

I think it's great we're showing more competition for the us kids, but don't mess with a good thing!
