Re: Maine Recruit Updates: The Search for Spock

After starting out a little slow in the USHL, Derek Arnold has 9 goals and 14 points in his last 11 games, lading his team from last to back solidly in the playoffs. Oh, I forgot, he is no longer a Maine recruit......

Who cares?

Re: Maine Recruit Updates: The Search for Spock

Here's a nice summary on him just scroll down as he is toward the bottom. Sounds like a very good one, level headed, and with Dimmen, Van Dyk and Banwell all Seniors next year Maine now has 3 d-men in the fold, which was very important.

http://www.thebrockvillevoice.com/index.php/brockville-sports/bravesprofiles?start=5

He was not the player I saw after the game on Friday night, but very likely was also on hand for the weekend.

Nice to get another D-man with size and offensive skill........and nice that he is from Quebec (we've had a few good players from there ;))

Re: Maine Recruit Updates: The Search for Spock

His game, just not there so far

2 assists and a minus 12 in last 10 games..

do you have a feel for how much of this is him, and how much of it is based on the fact that he's simply on a bad team? just curious as to how much is a matter of circumstance (being on a bad team) and how much is on him....

i was poking around the USHL website and it looks like Youngstown has half the number of DI commits as the average of the other 13 teams in the league. Of the four teams with the fewest number of DI commits, the highest in the standings any of them are is 4th (Tri-City), and the two teams with the fewest (Y'town and Lincoln) are last in their divisions. Meanwhile, only two teams have scored fewer goals then Y'town (Lincoln & Sioux City), and Y'town has scored 15 fewer goals than the average of the other 13 teams. At the same time, only 1 team has conceded more goals (Des Moines). Y'town has given up 34 more goals than the average of the other 13 teams in the league. They also have the highest penalty minutes in the league, 406 more than the average.

Re: Maine Recruit Updates: The Search for Spock

There definitely was. I was at the basketball win Saturday afternoon and as I was walking out, Kerluke was touring the building with a sharp dressed kid and his family.

Huh, that's strange some on these boards think only Corkum recruits.:D

Combination of the two.

The problem is that Youngstown came over from NAHL and the team is still perceived as an NAHL team, playing in the USHL. Very strange group who have alienated themselves from the league with arrogance and other antics. Not a quality org in my opinion, could be dead wrong.

Kind of surprised that a few have not been picked up. Like Adam Berkle for Youngstown, he is better then any of the F recruits Maine has coming in, outside maybe Anthoine. Big strong kid who plays with an edge.

Re: Maine Recruit Updates: The Search for Spock

Finally gotten a chance to talk to Anthoine tonight. He's excited for the new challenge. In his first game he was a -1 playing at new position Right wing. He played on the left wing in Chicago

Re: Maine Recruit Updates: The Search for Spock

This is great news on the defensive front. Rutt and Gingras are both recognized for being gifted offensively, but at 6'2'' --- I'm sure they'll both develop some great physicality to go with it.

As of right now, these Boston Advantage kids seem to be wildcards/gambles. We're not positive whether or not their talent will be transferable, but with Rutt and Gingras anchoring the D class already....if Brian Harris turns into anything above average, well that will just be sweet, sweet icing on the cake! I like Dim, Banwell and Van Dyk.....but it sounds like these guys will not only be their replacements, they could actually have more to offer :D

Anthoine is the clear leader of next years' forward class, and we don't even need a heck of a lot of help there as we're not really losing much.

The focus must now be to land a great goalie for '11 or '12, and another solid splash at forward for '11 to help Ashley (Who still looks firm on Maine!)

2012 will be a very important recruiting class, but we'll worry about that later.

Re: Maine Recruit Updates: The Search for Spock

Their was another potential recruit at the game last night, from Ontario if what I heard was correct? Small guy so I doubt he was a dman:)

Re: Maine Recruit Updates: The Search for Spock

Maine needs to recruit another promotions guy - what goes on between periods and the general promotions at the games are terrible - last night's "recognition " of the folks in the military and their families was just plan embarrassing. March 'em onto the ice, let them wave and the send them off. No speech by the AD, nothin'.....

Did anybody know that Jim Craig was signing autographs in recognition of the "Miracle on Ice"? I noticed one small flyer scotch taped to the wall while I was leaving the building.....

not only was the team's performance embarrassing..........

I agree with you. That was done poorly. Jim Craig was at the Alfond last night?

Re: Maine Recruit Updates: The Search for Spock

James & Co. are a complete flop as it concerns game day promotions, and donor and fan relations. Clueless minions!

19

Yea, what is up with Higgins anyway?

When he committed he looked like he might be our best player of that class. Now I'm questioning whether he won't be the least effective addition....

What gives?!

Re: Maine Recruit Updates: The Search for Spock

Nice article on www.ushl.com on Waterloo and Derek Arnold. After it was posted, he had 2 games. Scored 2 and had 4 assists, 6 pts total and a + 3. That is 16 goals and 28 assists, all 16 after he hooked up with Lowell which puts him in top 20 in USHL in scoring and the highest scorer in league over past 20 games by a mile.

Maine coaches blew it on this one. Great kid and player

High Five for Black Hawks…Three victories during the week extended the winning streak of the Waterloo Black Hawks to five games, their longest of the season. During that stretch, the team has converted 8-of-21 (38%) on the power play while killing off 21-of-22 (95%) shorthanded situations. The Black Hawks overcame a 3-0 deficit on Tuesday to capture a 4-3 victory vs. Sioux City when Zach Palmquist scored just 39 seconds into the extra session. Waterloo then used a four-goal third period to capture a 5-1 win over Des Moines on Friday. Derek Arnold netted a goal in all three victories during the week and has scored 11 goals during his current nine-game point streak. He has scored all 14 of his goals this season over his last 16 games. C.J. Motte has been in goal for every minute of Waterloo’s five-game win streak posting a 1.78 GAA and has been in net for each of the last 10 victories by the team
